How do you know that?? Thats pretty new tech and its in development for the new F1 engines. TERS, thermal energy recovery system, utilizes the heat generated by the turbine. Def KERS is by itself alone not enough already. Since Mclaren now uses turbocharged engines on their street cars, i hope we can see this new tech in their F1 sucessor. 917 spyder uses old tech.

I took info here
P.U.R.E: 2014 F1 Engine | ScarbsF1.com
I have to admit that there are some cloudy-areas about kers for 2014, seems kers name is used also to depict the future whole system (not only ters-hers)

I add also that kers isn't a old tech, it's current tech and ters/hers systems will be adopted from f1 only in 2014, so after min. 4-5 years will be transfer to the "normal" production cars

Yes sir - running a Cayman a bit for fun 2 hours on the track - with semi proffessional drivers - is not the same than putting a car in the hand of a proffessional race driver for 24 hours at Le Mans..

Sorry Carrera - this time I think you were wrong...for the rest we always agreed..

Hi Turboholic,

Yes I agree - to everything you write more or less - yes - people should stop dreaming that 20s gains are possible. at this level - 1-2 seconds are already huge. And keep in mind that on the Ring - most of the time is gained on the straight line...which is very long at this track. So, it could even be that on a normal race track the differnce between GT2RS and 918 would be smaller.

However, dont forget that its the car industry itself who is fooling its customers..by promising its customers the blue from the sky..

KERS - This is way to go with new technology on road cars! McLaren & Ferrari take race proven (KERS from F1) system that will give mind-blowing results on road cars without experimenting.

They dont do experiments on road cars like Porsche with 918. On end of the day that's why sports car manufacturers make cars/engines for race - so they can experiment with systems that will be used in road going cars.
Hi Milanno,

Fully agree...but as todays automotive cycles have become shorter and shorter..meaning more often new models..the industry just doesnt have the time and money to test things for years..its no secret that in many cases BMW, Merc and others used its customers more or less to test new things..I dont think that this is a step forward - on the contrary. Thats why the 996 and 997 GT3/2 are so great..you are using something that to a large extent has already been tested by others - and proven to be a winner

True about the GT3R, but doesn't the 918 also have the flywheel system? But anyways I still agree they whole "Hybrid" thing is the real drawback of the 918.

And also, the 9A1 engine has been raced at the 24 Hours the 'Ring in the 987.2 Cayman S.

How about we get an option to toss all the hy-brid tech out fully and get a petrol-powered only bad boy that looks this good for CGT prices? !

Sounds good to me DJ. Honestly, if that were the case the 918 would be a million times better. It definetly has the looks to be a Carrera GT successor, but all of the Hybrid tech, and the PDK really adulterate the entire car.
