This might be me just going on a rant, but I honestly think that Ring times are so pointless and dumb, few people will ever drive these car on the Ring and yes some owners of the 918 in europe or where ever might, but they will never match the times posted by the factory drivers.

Also people make such a big deal about the times, was the car running on slicks who was driving blah blah blah.

I would rather wait for a video review by eve or autocar or someone to here a my average person with experience and give a more honest opinion about the 918.

Also im not sold on the 918 I'm sure it will grow on me but its apparent that we are moving to cars that are being more focused on regulations that being emotional experiences, and I think that most people unlike us her on the forum don't see the joy of driving like we do that just see it as a way to get from point A to point B.

We can all debate if its worth the 850k price tag, and honestly I dont think it is, I'm sure it will be a great car like most all porches are but it doesn't have the beauty the CGT had or the sound or the wood shifter or things like that.

For me it seems recently I'm getting more let down recently with new arrivals of cars then I am getting blown away like in the past.

The time was set with the car on standard road going Michelin tires.
Further info:
*The car had the Weissach package.
*Porsche had one lap to set a time.
*Time was set from a standstill start.
*One of the fastest times set by a street leagl car on standard road going tires.

I understand and kind of agree. Same thing with 0-60 times. 0-60 times used to be fairly important IMHO, but these days it has all come down to manufacturers trying to get their cars to 60 as fast as possible that they ignore everything else, and just use their 0-60 time for bragging rights, even the it doesn't reflect the car's dynamics at all.

Now, 'ring times do reflect how good a car is much better than do 0-60 times, but I still see where you're coming from. Also, 'Ring times have always been about bragging right, and I'd say they're just a gauge of how fast your car can possibly go.

I'm sure the car will perform well, but the only thing I love about this car is the appearance.

I just can't shake the feeling that Porsche could have made the 918 into a lightweight TT V8 classic. Leave the hybrid tech to the car and SUV until it has sufficiently proved itself as a worthy addition to a low volume halo car.

Curious to see the KERS and weight of the P1.

Mmmmh. Saw all the 918 that were driving on Sunday and Monday in the flesh and I disagree a bit. It's "okay" looking (Let's wait for other colors, I'll probably change my mind who knows ?) and isn't very "supercar-impressive". It looks more like a Boxster who took too much steroids. The noise neither wasn't impressive, even lapping on the Ring it wasn't a monster. I'm far from being able to buy one of those, but I stay on my positions : overpriced, and somehow probably not a real competitor for P1 and Enzo-succesor. May the future tell me I'm wrong

+ The 2013 GT-R did the Ring in 7'16, though it's not an exact criteria to jusge a car.

I have never liked the CGT. I respect those whose opinion is different but to say that the 918 isn't the most amazing Porsche ever is ridiculous to me.
My biggest problem is that I probably won't ever own one.

IMO in sport/hyper cars things like hybrid should be proved on race track & then introduced on road cars! Same thing is with future Porsche GT3 engine that will be introduced & it`s not race proved...

KERS - This is way to go with new technology on road cars! McLaren & Ferrari take race proven (KERS from F1) system that will give mind-blowing results on road cars without experimenting.

They dont do experiments on road cars like Porsche with 918. On end of the day that's why sports car manufacturers make cars/engines for race - so they can experiment with systems that will be used in road going cars.
