Porsche 918 Spyder Laps The Ring In 7 minutes, 14 seconds

We've seen and heard the 918 tackle the ring in our previous spy reports, but today we get official confirmation just how fast the 918 spyder really is around the ring. When Porsche revealed the car in vintage Martini Racing livery a few months ago, they confirmed that engineers are seeking a lap time at the Nürburgring-Nordschleife of less than 7:22. Well lets say they did quote a bit better then they hope for with a 7:14 time.

To put this into perspective, the Carrera GT lapped the ring in 7:23, the 997 GT2RS lapped the ring in 7:18, and the 2012 Lexus LFA Nürburgring Edition lapped the ring in 7:14.64.

As with many other auto manufacturers today, Porsche has used Facebook to let the world know the results of another round of successful testing with its new 918 spyder hybrid supercar. As they note "Sometimes, words cannot describe a feeling. But in this case, a simple figure can. Nürburgring, Nordschleife. Car: 918 Spyder. Lap time: 7 minutes, 14 seconds. Any questions left?"

I guess the only question left is when can we have one.

I wouldn't have said that 4 seconds faster than the GT2RS was impressive
What's more that's still slower than the Apollo time

In effect the question is almost why pay so much for the 918 when the next "standard" GT2 will probably be quicker?

I'll bet the Mclaren is way faster

Nice time for the 918. Is it wrong to hope the next GT2RS is 18+ seconds faster than the 997 version?

So it's the same price as the LFA? It looks great but that's it.
