Will the 4.0 RS hold it's value.........

Has about 1500. It's ready to track, but it's pretty hard when you have a Cup Car with a Seq tranny.

"New delta in price VS 3.8RS was $50K I think the Delta will remain the same as they both depreciate."
Not sure I agree. They will both depreciate, but there are significantly fewer 4.0s and it is the last and most powerful street iteration of the Metzger motor - and will likely be the last manual transmission GT3. I also think the delta in values now is closer to $100k, factoring in the car recently sold in Dallas.

Msrp vs Msrp.
8 weeks ago I could sell my 3.8 with 800 miles and buy 4.0 no options for about 60 k more.
4.0 much harder to find now. Only way the 4.0 will increase the delta is if there are more buyers then sellers. It could happen, if we all agree the 991rs is not good as a track car, we will all look for a 4.0 eventually. But this is from track rat perspective. A 3.8 with 20k in upgrades is faster, but will never be 4.0' heck even a 3.6 can be faster.
The unknown for me is the collectors.. If they all must have one then there likely won't be enough.
Supply and demand.

yes - to this comment I would more or less agree - in you first posting you completely forgot that 4.0 is a limited edition...Porsche history shows that limited edition cars were always well off. Just a funny comparison..there were roughly 1300 2.7Rs built (more than double of the 4.0RS)..and where are the prices today? since a few yers they completely went throug the roof. Its a typical collector - and partly also "investor" car..
Whether the 991 will be able to give the same feeling? with a panamera intererior, elct. steering, e-handbrake..etc.. -I doubt it very much. And then there is still the engine..
My prediction - 4.0 prices will in the next years go back to its new price..mybe a bit below..
If the world doesnt srew up completely I predict that the 4.0 will be the successor of the 2,7RS.
I wouldnt rule out that in 15 years a 4.0 is worth more than a GT2RS..in fact there isnt a big difference anyway today..
Ah, how you can make a RS 3.8 with 20K faster than a 4.0 ?..I really dont know..I mean it would be possible -but not for 20K..I would say you need 40..
PS: making a GT2 faster than a GT2RS with 20 K is possible..

Not argueing, just thinking and guessing out loud with you here..
I dont care about Limited edition, so is a Speedster and it will drop like a brick. Hardly more then an exclusive option package. What counts is a more limited quanity available than wanted.
I agree with you on the 991RS.1 Plus by the time it is proven to me, we are 2 years past the introduction date in 2014/2015 and we wait for the 991RS.2, so not much deprecitation on any RS between now and then I guess.
Eventually I think it will become the 993 TTS and 72RS, but now we are talking 20+ years and it could very well be that the 4.0 just goes up and up and up, but only on very low mileage cars. The 3.8RS certainly has gone up 10-20K the last 12 months or so.
I've driven both at Sebring, if you re-gear, add LSD, maybe add suspension and wider cup front fenders with 10" 275 front tires 3.8 will be faster.
I'd rather have a 4.0 never the less. I seriously tried buying one 8 weeks ago but the right one at the right price was not available in the 2-3 months I had to switch cars between track events. No regrets though, I tried. Several have sold under $190K the last 6 months, all with 3K + miles, very low option. I put 10K miles and 40 track days per year on my car. No matter how collectable if I get a 4.0 it will depreciate for the first 4 years for sure.
This time next year at most in 2 years a GT2RS will be cheaper then the 4.0 i expect, so just to have a real different experience I might try TurboRS in a year or 2 just to see if I like it or not. I suspect I will like it less, but only one way to find out for sure.
The intro of the 991GT3 wont tell us much, the 991RS will make our guessing much easier :-)

Hi Trakcar,
I agree ..like I also think that the 991 GT3 itself wont change so much..the real thing should be the RS...
Yes, Speedster and 997 sport Classic were also limted ones..fully agree - they drop like bricks..however - I would not compare them with a GT3-GT32. Porsches racing cars - or based on them - were always thought after..
all the best,

4.0 value
Look, study Porsche history. It's all based on time and specialty performance. Would you buy a 550 Spyder at msrp today? You bet. The 4.0 is special, limited production and gone.
I had just purchased a '10 RS in white/red when I was offered 1 of 2 4.0s allocated to my favorite dealership. Could I say no? I love my black/black with ceramics. Am I going to make a million bucks? Hell no. These things will take a moderate hit and then soar in years to come. How long do you have? Mine is a keeper even though I'm 60. I would never think of selling it. Time value is the key. Check the Registry. Only 126 initially allocated to the U.S. I'm told 135 sneaked in by the end of the run. I fully intend to get a 991 RS upon availability, but I will not sell the 4.0.
