Jox I've got a good friend with one and the rebuilds cost anywhere from 15K for a simple refresh up to $35k for a quality sorting. The running costs are approx $3k/hr .......... at least on the track they are.

Right, so that's roughly 1,3 million dollars a year for me just driving it to and from work every day.

I think I gotta talk to my accountant first . . .

A real baller would buy it and crunch the numbers afterwards.

What kind of HP does a cup motor make? Does it make that much more than the 444 hp the current GT3RS motor makes? Why such a short life span for a little more hp?

How does one even buy a cup car? It's not like I can build one on porscheusa.com

Does Porsche just sell them to anyone that has money?

I know several 964 and 993 cups that are road legal . Specialist cars of malton have sold at least 1 996 cuppy that was uk road legal and I remember seeing a 997 cup in germany at the ring that had number plates .
Must be uncomfortable as sitting on a goat though .

H20skier would know. He owned one before. The question would be why would you want to drive a cup car on the street. I watched Mark drive his briefly and it's a pita to get moving. It HATES to go slow too.

When the new models come out, the first buyers need to agree to run it in the official series sponsored by Mobil 1 for at least 1 full season (this may have changed recently, but it was like this up until '09). After those orders have been fulfilled, others can place their order. Car is sold on a bill-of-sale. Everything goes through Porsche Motorsports N.A. which is based out of Santa Ana, CA.

If you are a club racer, IMHO the best thing to do is to research the used cars that are for sale and buy the nicest example with the lowest hours on the motor. Even better than that is to pick up a chassis with no motor that was kept as a spare and then buy a new motor from PMNA.
