Thanks or the replies guys. As much as would love to own a "Supercar" - that is mainly my little boy's ego talking. The reality of owning a supercar and not driving it would pain me. Sadly - the MP4 is going to be far superior from a performance standpoint. I hate that it doesn't have 3 pedals but the way techonology is moving no car is going to be 3 pedals. The MP4 is the future. The question is how involving will it be?

No offence to H20Skier but I don't want to have a collection. Actually let me correct that - I CAN'T AFFORD to have a collection of nice cars. I want a car I can drive. The MP4 in someways seems to be the ideal mix. I just have to get over the resale hit.

A friend of mine told me to buy the MP4. Keep it for a few months, wait till the CGT owners sell their cars for 918's and you could have the best of both worlds - get to sample a MP4 without much of a resale hit and yet get to wait and see if the CGT drops more in value.

Sorry for the long response. I am just "thinking out loud".

Ritesh.

A good reply, the MP4 definitely sounds like the better car for you.

I hate to break the bad news, but CGT's aren't going to drop much further IMO. They are the last of an era - prices are actually very slowly rising for decent examples(not even time capsule versions that never have been touched).

To be fair, I think majority clients that can afford the $600+ k price tag of the 918 will be bothered to regain some money from the CGT. Same as, did many F50 buyers trade on in on them for the Enzo?

Good luck on what ever you decide!

Ritesh, you've got three of the best drivers in your garage already. Kudos to you. Looking at a guy who has made the choices you have, I think you might want to reconsider the MP4. Your garage is full of involving, responsive, talkative, flawed, team players. Great pals all.

The MP4, on the other hand, seems, well, sterile by comparison. Tremendous technology packed into each and every bite, no question. The part that leaves me oddly unmoved by the car is the the feeling it gives me that a driver-any driver-is not absolutely required for it to go about its highly impressive business.

I fully expected myself to seriously consider doing very bad financial things to get a McLaren during the long wait for its arrival. Now that it's nearly here, I'm cured. And I'm puzzled, but the car is just, in my opinion, cold and unemotional.
Do something nice for yourself--take the GT3 for a DRIVE.

IMHO, the CGT is in the ultra-exclusive supercar group that includes the CGT, Enzo, F40, F50, Veyron, K-egg, Zonda and of course the king of them all, the F1.

The MP4 is in the same league as the 458, Gallardo LP/SL, R8 V-10, Scuderia, GT2RS, etc. Anyone of those would make for a much more applicable "which would you rather have" thread.

Sorry but I disagree. A properly spec'd MP4 is ~$275K. A CGT in good condition is ~$325K. If you are in the market for a $275K car then you can probably afford a $325K car. The MP4 will cost less in maintenance but lose more in resale. So in the end the cost of ownership is going to be the same over 4-5 years. I think the main question is which car fits your personality and driving habits more.

Finally - Comments like one is a Supercar and the other is not are typically made by teenage boys with posters on their walls. Is that you?

the similarity between these two cars is the price and that's to your benefit, just because you have figured out the MP4 suits you more than a CGT doesn't mean the CGT is a lesser car, maybe it just means you are a lesser driver?

of course because he disagrees with you he must be a teenage boy.

the CGT is a hypercar, the MP4 is a supercar, his comments are valid. you can't honestly believe they are in the same category, one is a bespoke, limited machine that was based on a race car and made to allow the porsche engineers to flex their muscles. the other is an extremely credible foray into the mainstream supercar market by a very capable company who has made legendary machinery in the past (MF1, the myriad of F1 racing cars). no one is arguing the MP4 isn't a fantastic car, choosing between the two is a great problem to have, but imo (and i suspect many others), the CGT is a truly special "hall of fame" supercar and the last of a dying breed (manual gearbox, big NA power) and the MP4 is the first of the new generation of playstation dynamics and hand holding accessibility.

its a paradigm shift really

I've met BigE and I can most definitely assure you that he's certainly not a lustful teenage boy. He does have some awesome posters though.

I'm not sure who you are or how old you are, but if it comes down to a matter of cost when you are considering a CGT or MP4, then you don't deserve to own a CGT. You probably couldn't handle one anyway, not enough driver aids to compensate for lack of skills (isn't it great when someone makes blind, sweeping assumptions about people with very little knowledge about them? I only posted about my perceived differences between the two cars. You proceeded to ask if I am a a "teenage boy" Are you a member of NAMBLA by any chance?)
