CGT Clutch depth

Im pretty sure this is up here a few times, but for some reason, im getting a "security token" error when i do any searches. maybe my browser, maybe the site, but i figured it wouldnt hurt to ask again.

what is the factory new measurement on the CGT clutch? is it 30mm
and what is the depth at which you shoudl replace that thing?
and then what do you think is an acceptable measurement for one of these 2 to 5k mile cars?

lastly, while we'reon that topic.... in addition to the clutch, and then checking the underbody/tubs, what other things would you review when PPI'ing the car?

i know they are pretty durable, and heck, i went through this a year and a half ago...but my memory is worse than the security tokens .

thx in advance.

30.5 to 31 is new. 27.5 or so is toast.
Yearly oil change. Break flush every 2 years.
completeness luggage, keys, books, records, etc.
type I and II over-revs.
no paint work.

There were some campaigns.

PS: when you get a chance, weigh the t-tops. I'm positive they're much heavier in the '04. This might be my imagination, but, following my first chance to give her a proper 'italian tune-up' yesterday, I thought the 04 was stronger than the 05. It's just a complete animal - I was nervous for an hour following my drive.

If you are getting it checked also check the Hours on the car. THAT will tell you a lot as to how much its been running/ or maybe just with the ignition on.

Factory workshop manual quotes 31.00mm new, replace at 28.00mm. Very specific replacement thickness.

As for acceptable wear, my car has 19k miles and is at 29.70mm on the original clutch. I know of a 1000 mile car that's had a new clutch so there is no right or wrong for the clutch wear at the mileage you mention - obviously the higher the better!

As you say undertray condition is important as these and the rear defuser are very expensive to replace with OE parts.

So do you have to remove the clutch to inspect its thickness or it is a reading you get but hooking it up to the porsche diag system?

To access the clutch inspection port you first have to remove the rear undertray/diffuser.

There is then a small panel you remove and check the thickness with a vernier caliper.

I have a better quality PDF if you email me through my profile.

Any Porsche dealership approved for CGT service work will be able to check this no problem.

Accessing clutch inspection port

just curious....my cgt is current in the shop for an alternator replacement..(oh the joy!<G>) there is a lot of stuff dismantled to access that alternator.

my question is: with both that two carbon undertray pieces removed, how much additional work do you think it would be to do an inspection of the clutch while all that stuff is off the car and out of the way?
would be nice to just notate now at this stage of the game.

cant be too much more? that inspection port if i read this right is on the rear of the car near the engine?

what do you think would be a fair dollar for them to ask to do that inspection while all that stuff is off and clear of the car already for another service they are working already?

+1 on everything Jamie has said.

Looking at the clutch depth should be a relatively simple procedure when that undertray is off. Steve I wouldn't imagine they'd charge you anything extra.
