This car will be fantastic in its AMG form.
Somewhat disappointed that the non-AMG variants will no longer have the flared fenders!

 

One positive thing about the Maybach shutdown is that MB will no longer have to worry about "holding back" on the S Class.

 

^There will be a maybach under the mercedes star now, its called 600 Grosser and will be based on the W222 platform and will arrive in 2014-2015:

Thats how i always wanted it to be, the mercedes name is strong enough to pull of a uber luxury car, no need for maybach.
And i also hope they learn the lesson from maybach and differentiate that car enough from normal S classes. It will after all cost 4 times as much.

Btw, you probably already know, but Grosser is german and means "Bigger". Fits the new car

 

Not to split hairs, but "Grosser" actually means "big one". "Grösser" means bigger. Just FYI...

This car has existed for the past four generations of S-Class, i.e. since the passing of the original W100 600 Pullman and it always has been outrageously expensive. I'm amazed that a lot of people and magazines now write about a successor to the 600 Pullman "Großer Mercedes". There have been such long-wheelbase versions for the W126, the W140, the W220 and the W221, some of which I've seen new and for sale in a Mercedes dealership. And all of these weren't some of the numerous after-market jobs, but official cars built by Mercedes-Benz. I've still got the brochure for the W220 one. They were called the Pullman or Pullman Guard (armoured version), just like the LWB 600s (W100). Naturally, they'll make a Pullman version of the new W222.
