My E30 project
#31
Nice, good luck with the project. I had a lot of fun restoring mine to it's present condition. Soon you'll realize what a "100% working E30" means, if you ever go after that status. lol
I've got mine in the classifieds now actually. I don't really wanna sell it, so I'm not giving it away on my asking price. Nothing drives like the E30!

Every time I think about selling it I realized that I am better off keeping it.

From here out I'm going to confine it to work I can do myself and occasional junkyard runs. After the Dec 4th race I'll decide if I want to keep it and turn it into a spec E30 or just sell it.
ETA: Actually I might swap the 4.10 for a 3.73 LSD, the thing sings on the freeway.

Well it's pretty driveable. At least it has been. The idiot ricer kid took out the windshield washer squirter system "well it was broken and it just added weight"....seriously? So I went to a junkyard yesterday and got a new one out of an old cab. Also some clips to hold my door card in place so it doesn't threaten to come off in my hand every time I close the door. I put new gears in the odometer and new lights in the dashboard and now neither works.
Last night I took the girl out for sushi. It was raining. I suggested the E30 and she begrudgingly accepted. She sat in the car with arms and legs folded in as tightly as possible, apparently in fear that any contact with the car would transmit some horrible infectious disease.
So, the wipers no longer work.
They work, but only when they feel like it, and that time isn't generally when it's raining hard.
We bought some pumpkins to carve on the way back. Every time I hit the brakes we heard them roll forward and hit the back of the seats, then I'd gas it and there would be a thump when they would roll back to the rear of the trunk.
I get home and the pumpkins are upright, sitting exactly where I left them. Either those things are some wickedly talented pumpkins or I've got a new noise to chase down.

Got everything mechanical working pretty damn well. Replaced those horrible Eibachs with a set of e30 M3 springs, replaced those KYBs with a set of Bilstein Sports, new front rotors & pads and what do you know, this thing handles! I took it to Buttonwillow as a support car for our 24 Hours of LeMons team. I ran it in practice and we used it as a rolling parts car (we only needed the wipers). Mild understeer gave way to a little playful oversteer when you got the revs up on corner exits, but it really had way more grip than power. The rear brakes were totally overwhelmed but that's an easy fix.

Running back and forth from Buttonwillow I got her up to an indicated 130 and she was still pulling! Even held up in the driving rain we had in the Grapevine on the way home. Yikes!
Then yesterday I looked away for a second and rear-ended someone. Gah.

So pissed right now.

LOL, I did that once in my imagination, then I realized that the tires are H rated and backed off...
