As a Mk4 R32 owner, I can say that the Golf R is one car I have seriously considered selling my R32 for. I will have to drive the Golf R first to make my decision.

I agree, one of the best exhaust notes ever. I wish VW could make a case to refine it and make it more efficient and lighter. Sad to see the VR6 go, but dynamically the R seems a superior car.

I'm pretty sure that's a standard GTI with an R bodykit.

Wheels look wrong, but it's got the black headlights, correct grille, LEDs, etc... I'm not so sure it's a GTI.

It's a strange one for sure—it also doesn't have the Golf R side skirts, or black painted calipers (GTI's are red).

My bet would be that it's actually a GTI with an R mask.

A photo from the rear would answer a lot of questions, too. Good point about the calipers. If someone did convert it, they went through a lot of trouble and money - not worth it IMO with the real thing coming...
