anyone do any dj'ing?

I am not sure I want to step up and drop that kind of change for turntables and Serato in addition to a mixer. Plus I'm feelin sketch about using my current laptop, so I'd want to pick up like an older 12" powerbook or something just for DJing... I've got plenty of time. I should learn to mix w/o Serato to start with anyways, wouldn't want to look like a fool getting caught without it.
Gary I sent you an e-mail.

Either start w/ 2 1200's or dual cd mixer. I wouldn't recommend Serato unless you've been doing it for years and have the basics down. It's like adding another bag of tricks but the basics still need to be learned.
For powerbooks, G4 or G5 is good enough to go for solo use.
Gary, what's a decent stand alone audio burner nowadays? My pioneer is having some read issues and trouble with finalizing the cd

No you can go either route. I would do cd mixers nowadays. It's PITA to carry all the vinyls. cd quality is so much better. But serato imo is not needed in the beginning. You just need to start with the basic parts for mixing. The basics is 2 turntables or 2 cd players or dual mixer like what I have to mix with, and a 2-4 channel mixer.
Mine is simliar to this one:

I visited Moscow last weekend and went to some cool clubs there, and damn those DJdudes know how to play with beats! Well back home I find all the clubs here have terrible DJs, can't even compare them to hehe
So I got a little hooked on DJing after that, but I'm quite the noob when it comes to mixing stuff together. I'm a huge house fan so I know many songs that could be nice to mix up and I have a sense of what would be good to put together. So yesterday I got hold of this Traktor DJ software and tried fooling around with it mixing house and electro songs. Tried looking for tutorials online but I only found some basic ones on youtube with a guy that sounded like he was pretty high and hungover haha. Gary, do oyu know any other sites or places were you could learn a little about what effects does what instead of doing it the trial&error way? I just found this DJ thread so I figured I could chime in and ask a few q's.
