ok so here is the deal
if you want to do it right from the get go...
2 tables, rane 57, laptop, serato
The other method is ...
pioneer cmx 3000
numark ppd 9000
Try finding these used. The Pioneer deck is pretty much 2 CDJs combined into one deck. Its great. The numark (although usualy the co. doesnt make top notch stuff) is fantastic. Has effects and a great feel for electronic music (cant scratch on this set up).

I started with 2 1200's and a cheap pyramid mixer. Upgraded to a Numark, and now another Numark mixer, 4 channel. My dad had the sound system already. I'm ready for sorato now
Serato is cool but is at $1000. Not good for starting up because you lose learning the basics of mixing. I don't use my vinyl at gigs anymore, just cd's.
Keep it simple with a dual cd mixer, mixer, cd's, P.A. = portable amp, and system with 2 main speakers with 2 subs, and a crossover. This would be the bottom line setup I would recommend.
I've been mixing since Jan. 1990. You've been given a lot of good suggestions and let us know what you end up with.

The CD player we use at the radio station is a CMX 3000, I like it a lot.
I don't want to go the laptop route because I want to learn to mix the old school way. That and I don't want to play vinyl because it's freaking expensive, maybe some other time I'll pick one up.
Thanks for the advice though dude I appreciate it! I'll be picking up a lot of music this week, still trying to find my niche.
