btw... what type of music?
honestly, I listen to everything from ACDC to ZZ top (bad analogy I know)

but everything. Hood-Hop, Acid Bass, Metal, Funk, Classical (don't think I will be mixing that up though ) Electro, alt rock, mashups, etc.

well the main question then is... will you want to learn how to scratch, cut etc... because those are vinyl skills that are easier to learn from the get go and you will need different mixer than just a house dj for example

Technics 1200 equivalents and a Numark mixer if you want to lug crates of records around or one of those little integrated MP3/ipod mixers for something portable. If you're looking for breakbeat records, Q-Bert and company have a ton out... --------[ DJQBERT ]--------

No worries mate, I'm not in a rush, but I'm in a position where I should begin my research/buying process. I usually do a hell of a lot of research in order to buy anything I use everyday or a piece of quality equipment. (Example: my current phone was a few months of research and deal sniping). I'm going to be learning to DJ Jackin' House, Funky House and probably some UK Garage music. Out of (relative) cheapness and ease, I'm gonna start with CD's, and maybe move to turntables later on if I feel the need to spin me some vinyl cause it's damn sexy. I've been looking at Pioneer stuff, one of my mentors just picked up a pair of CDJ-200's and said he loves them.

For anyone in the chicago area, tune into 89.3 WNUR on Monday nights from 10-1, I'll most likely be in the studio, and there's gonna be two AWESOME shows going on.
