Yes they did...somewhere I have a shot of Jim Clark driving a Type 49 coming out of a corner in a full slide with opposite steering lock !

I am fortunate to have the F40 invited to the Bahrain F1 race and associated Ferrari Festival along with over 30 other classic and rare Ferraris from the USA and UK. The car is being air shipped to europe first, and then subsequently on to Bahrain for a wonderful series of events including a private track session for 2 days after the F1 race.

The is always a little trepidation when you ship a car overseas for an event...the experienced handlers that are responsible for its safe shipping sent me this pic today showing my F40 at a secure, bonded customs location as it awaits loading onto a 747...along with an illustrious brother ! I feel a bit better now !

I will post some more details and a complete account of the coming event in the near future in a separate thread....it has been described as a once in a lifetime experience !

It sounds like a great event. Have fun. 2 questions:

What type of tires are you planning on running on the track ?

Has your F40 gone through the Classiche certification process ?

I will run a new set of pirelli pzero assimetricos, although this is a non-abusive fun track event with many other vintage ferraris that are not looking to get bent up ! I'm not a track hero, so I don't intend to run 10/10ths or anything...just have some fun as you have aptly stated !!!

My car is not classiche certified. I know its 100% original, so do the judges at Cavallino and other concours it has won...since I don't intend to sell it, Classiche is a bit pointless to me. Maybe eventually I'll consider it as part of a routine major service, but I'm not really that worried about Classiche certifiying it. For buyers and sellers it might be something of value, but what happens after a car is certified ?...whats to stop someone from changing anything on the car to make it non 100% original...would it then be re-certified ?

Opinion is split on this...some are for it, others not so enthusiastic. I think if you are selling or buying a car it might be somewhat helpful...but no more so than a thorough PPI which will cost thousands less. If I'm buying an F40 or any other Ferrari, I'm going to get an experienced set of eyeballs on it...ones that can discern if it is 100% original/crashed/abused etc.

The classiche restoration department on the other hand, is first rate and a wonderful resource for vintage parts and information.
