Looks like the firewall was removable?

 

There is no "firewall" per se - just a thin sheet covered in fabric on the driver compartment side that is removable to access the cambelts and other bits on the front of the engine. That's a reason one can hear every sound from the engine bay - the engine is maybe 8 inches behind the driver's head and there is no sound insulation. And that's also why, to your question, a couple of the pics show a clear view of the dash from the rear end of the car and vice versa.
