Cayenne Turbo vs X5/6 M
#51
Ciao Lupin , have received many responses .. limited to countries where fuel has a lower cost than the Italian market. Why ', do not opt for a 4D X5 with Twin Turbo? I assure you, and 'fast but has good off-road capability. I like it here. The Cayenne and 'low-tech but shares the Touareg chassis and costs more!'

The X5 is also the one that gives your 3rd kid the feel that he's not adopted cause the CTT and the X6 that I've tried have only 2 real seats in the back. Nonetheless one of these X5 it's just a diesel car to get the work done.
The diesel it's also good to your drivers license because you don't feel so compelled to push it all the time like when you are on the CTT... On a CTT you only start to give the throttle a rest when you fell tired of stopping to fill up the tank every 300km or so...
But in the end the X5/X6 M and the CTT are in a league of their own compared to the rest, and the diesels are no substitute to them.

Not to poke fun at you J but WHAT did your parents do when you were kids? Before SUV's were as prevelent as they are?
Seems to be families got by with Station Wagons just fine. People don't buy SUV's for real reasons; they buy they to make themselves feel better- BIGGER is better keep up with the joneses crap. I'd be willing to bet less than 10% of the population who drive SUV even USE it for it's intended use.

So, the idea has always seemed natural.

I disagree, SUV's have simply replaced the large station wagons of the 70's and 80's. That's what my parents had for a large family. You can't find a wagon that big anymore.
We had to travel up north with our 18 month old, and two dogs this weekend for a wedding. Our Navigator was PACKED to the max in the back. Now, in 2 months we'll be adding another child into the mix, so that trip would add another bag, another stroller, another packnplay, etc.
I'll tow with it, i'll go on dirt roads with it. I won't off road it, that's not what the car was intended for. What is your definition of "intended purposes" of todays SUV? For me, it's to pack people and things into.

While YOU might disagree go check out all the SUV's @ starbucks parking lot. Now go find me one that the trailer hitch/ball/connection has actually been used. Or the 3rd row.
Keep in mind this is what I do. 8 out of 10 midsized SUV's barely see any use in the 2nd row let alone any REAL use to justify a SUV. I see the trade in's / lease return.
The guys who are on TS can attest this is true also- it happens a lot where a client returns their lease or trades a 5 passenger SUV in and the 2nd row looks barely used, if at all.

since when does an SUV have to tow? Or use the 3rd row (mine will rarely be used cause the back is full of shit most of the time)
Hell, my mom drives an SUV, no one ever in the back seat, it's almost always folded down, but that thing gets packed on a daily basis.
You seem to have avoided the question, what is the "intended" purpose of an SUV? What's your response to guys that buy GT3's who never track them?
