I agree on this, its so funny how many friends here in Florida have SUVs , its a trend . I would own one if I lived off the beaten path or in an area where there was often snow and large amounts (height of SUV)...other then that you wouldn't dare see Harris or Röhrl in an SUV real men can drive a Turbo Porsche in the snow like Pierre (old member from 6sp and other forums)

I love the CTT and have had several over the years. My X6M however was an animal and even when I decided to sell it and do a CTT with full Techsrt Magnum, I just felt that the CTT was more of an automatic SUV while the X6M was a SUV that felt like my ESS SC M3. Had to keep reminding myself I was actually in a SUV

Wow.

I feel really bad about myself and no longer consider myself a "real man". I think I might call the Man's Mancard Association and surrender my mancard as a result. I am also unsure if my kids will ever be able to look at me again or acknowledge me in public.

Now, all kidding aside, yours is a very myopic view. There are MANY reasons that we own SUVs. For example, with two little kids (3/5) there is absolutely ZERO way we can get what we need in a Panamera for most trips and jaunts to the in-laws, waterpark, etc. We can't get my chocolate lab or dane in the Panamera. We can haul stuff from Lowes or Home Depot in the Panamera. And, where I live with snow, the CTT out handles the Panamera very, very well. How do I know? I have owned and driven both.

Not to poke fun at you J but WHAT did your parents do when you were kids? Before SUV's were as prevelent as they are?

Seems to be families got by with Station Wagons just fine. People don't buy SUV's for real reasons; they buy they to make themselves feel better- BIGGER is better keep up with the joneses crap. I'd be willing to bet less than 10% of the population who drive SUV even USE it for it's intended use.

The ones with those wood panels and a V8... That's a Hollywood classic.

I really like the SUV concept because it fins a balance between the sports family car and the all around work car.

They're not the best at anything (speeding, offroading, cruising,...) , but are good enough to perform all these parts at a very acceptable level.

As for the ladies, they just love them for the higher driving position and their ability to easily climb the curbs and park them right by the shops...

My parents had a Station Wagon, when I was a kid. One big difference is that we did not have car seats, even for babies or toddlers. So the three of us kids fit in the backseat fine, or we could jump in the back and lay down if we wanted. These days with car seats requirment, you are forced to have a third row if you have more then 2 young kids. Other then a mini-van (which we have one, and its great), the other option is a large SUV.
Most SUVS sold are cheaper american brands and are not people trying to keep up with the joneses, its just they prefer an SUV over a minivan.
Personally, I love the way it feels to be driving an SUV like a CTT or RR. Is it worth the extra cost, probably not!
But there really is not anyone on this forum who can say there car choices are practical, necessary or financially smart ; unless they only have a prius or camry.
