Report: VW interested in Buying Lotus?
#11
I always thought so. My old Corolla wad the 3tc, and we were getting into the 13s on that back in the 90s (that was fast back then, LOL!). Isn't that engine real similar to what the Scion guys are getting to 800 hp (and beyond!) in import drags? I haven't seen a 2.0T survive a TUNE for very long, let alone get any kind of semi-dependable big power.

Well VW did save Lamborghini, Bugatti and made Skoda a decent car. There are of course a lot of boring engines in many of their cars, but then again all the amaizing V8 in the audis, R32 in the golf and of course the lambo and bugatti engines. If you combine these with a lightweight lotus with a good chassi, it might actually make Lotus a very desirable car. Some Audi interior knowledge might not hurt either.

A new, VW Polo-based TDI fwd Lotus roadster might not be super-fun, actually ... but you just KNOW VW will be smart enough to have the Lotus guys check out the GTi's suspension.
I may have been looking at this backwards. Crappy Lotii? Maybe ... Awesome(r) VWs? Absolutely!!

VW would benefit from chasis and alum expertise (along with Audi and Lambo). If Lotus were to be a supercar maker again, VW will have the funds to make it happen. Proton employees all ought to be fired for screwing up Lotus so badly.

and Lotus isn't what is going to propel VW into being the biggest car maker. how many cars does Lotus output every year? not nearly enough to help VW topple Toyota. I believe VW is just having fun now. First Ducati and now this
