1955 Aston Martin DB3S Racer Expected to Fetch 3.5 to 4 Million

Race fans know that Aston Martin and Ferrari were fierce competitors on the track during racing’s golden age. And while this 1955 DB3S most certainly won’t fetch near the 35 million a certain 1962 250 GTO recently did, a bid between 3.5 to 4 million would put it in the neighborhood with old racers wearing the Prancing Horse.

Over the years, loads of competition cars have wound up stuffed into the wall, burned to a crisp or died less glamorously while being harvested for parts, but chassis number 118 has survived nearly 60 years remarkably well. It was initially sold to a Dutch gentleman racer—hence the “Dutch Racing Orange” paint—and saw service at Goodwood, Silverstone and Zandvoort before being sold to an American who raced it at Pomona. While it got banged up at the California circuit, this is one of the most original Aston Martins of this vintage in existence, and a drool-worth piece of racing history.
