RARE 1 of 29 1967 TRIDENT CLIPPER V8
Autosport Vehicle Inventory
--Ferrari Red with Black leather interior and Black Carpeting, 4-speed manual, Ford 289 Hi-Po engine, Restored, 1 of only 29 built.
This beautifully restored Trident Clipper is 1 of 29 built and 1 of 10 with Ford Hi-Po engine. This car is one of the first six Clippers built and was sold new by International Motors of Austin, Texas. The earliest examples are notable for their fully opening “clamshell” hood panels as seen here.
Adding to the appeal of this Trident is its display in the 1996 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and the feature in which it appeared on the pages of the Volume 39, No.1 issue of Automobile Quarterly in 1999. The restoration was completed in 1993 by well-known restorer Skip McCabe.
The car today shows that, even years after the work was carried out, the quality of the restoration is still apparent and are as would be expected of a car that graced the lawn at Pebble Beach, no details have not been overlooked. The indicated mileage of less than 8,000 miles is believed to be original, having only three registered owners from new, it is quite possible.
Inside, the Black leather cockpit has the perfect blend of 1960s Italian GT and British GT car inviting you to spend quality time tearing up the roads as this car was intended. As might be imagined, the combination of the Ford Hi-Po V-8 engine and a very lightweight body give the Clipper breathtaking performance. When new, the quoted figures gave a top speed of almost 150 mph and a 0–60 time of five seconds.
Offered here is a chance to own a well-sorted example of a very limited-production sports coupe with distinctive period 1960s styling and brisk, small-block V-8 power.
