R & T Tests the SL65 BS
#42
I will put my money on the SL Black from 0 to 199 straight line.
A little time will tell in the handling department.
The SLR is not nor has it ever really been all that in my opinion and certainly not what it could have and should have been.
Anyone that says the SL Black is over priced and uses the SLR to validate their claim should be flogged.
IMHO

all other arguments aside the mental image of an SLR on a curvy track is funny to me... that car looks awkward going any direction but straight ahead. I've always figured it was made much more for its flashiness and the BS was 10x the track car... but I have no factual basis for that.

0 to 199, I'll take the SL Black.
Thanks for your opinion but I would still take the bet and your money.
Have you run an SL Black in your SLR yet? Show me the video to prove me wrong.
Traction, torque and aero are the keys to straight line performance
The SL Black has more tire, more torque and a cleaner design. It will more than make up for it's slight weight dis-advantage.
The SLR is 4 year old technology now.
All the straight line performance in the SLR and for 200K less....

I have not driven either car. I love the noise the SLR makes and I have to admit that although it looks like some art-deco automotive designer's wet-dream, the SLR does have some serious presence. Personally, I love the way race cars look, especially those that put function over form in the most extreme sense...like historic Group 7 Can Am cars and DTM cars. The SL65 BS looks like a road-going DTM car, all business and no BS. I only wish MBZ would have taken the concept to the extreme like the GT3 RS from Porsche. Stripped out with a roll-cage, 6 pt CF racing seats, etc. The reality is the a majority of the people that buy the SLR and the SL65 BS have no idea how to use them to anywhere near their full performance potential, nor do they ever intend to...
Both are awesome machines that are disturbingly and dangerously fast. Paris Hilton owns and drives one of them, and she would not be caught dead in the other one.....that should end any argument right there

I wonder if Paris Hilton takes her SLR to the track?
