Good driving by Needall with both cars. A Porsche is still a Porsche. I will sacrifice the 2 seconds all day.

Not really a fair comparison but an entertaining video, & Tiff is always fun.
I'd take the 911 hands down. If laptimes are everything, then buy a GT3

To be only two-odd seconds behind the GT-R when you're talking what's effectively a base model shows how good the 911's chassis really is.

as an engineering exercise i really admire the GTR but it's weight and transmission do it no favors. it's bloody quick though, one of the fastest point to point cars i have ever driven. it really covers ground at an alarming pace and has more interaction than the spec would have you believe. it's weight doesn't hinder the experience which is saying something but what really blows you away is the relentless acceleration. you feel omnipotent on the road, like you could mug any "supercar" that comes your way.

that all being said if you want purity, delicacy, and tactility any 2wd manual 911 would offer more enjoyment, more of the time.

I thought the GT-R would absolutely annihilate the 991 with a manual, but the times weren't really all that far off. Porsche really hit this one out of the park managing to make such a classic sports car go so fast. I can only imagine what the 991 will do with a reworked AWD chassis and more than 500hp.

This is what I want to know. Most comparisons look at a few laps around some track. What would happen if you ran both cars hard around the'ring for say four hours, or even more? Would we begin to see that one is getting your money's worth with the Porsche? I just remember a comparison between the GT-R and a GT3 a couple of years ago at the 'ring. I don't remember the magazine, but I do remember the GT-R having some overheating problems, and the brakes caught on fire. The GT3 was faster around the "ring and sailed smoothly around the 'ring with no mechanical glitches. Seems to me if you want to see who really has the "beef" you need to run them hard for several hours and see what shakes out. Oh and yes, the GTR's real competition is the new 991 Turbo, as you folks have pointed out. It is easier to tweak more horses out of a turbo motor...just saying.
