The GT3 was a manual, and obviously 2 wheel drive. It was a GT-R spec V that they also tested that had the brake fire, not the GT-R that ran against the GT3. The brakes on the spec V were shot after 2 laps. The CAR journalists preferred the GT3 over the GT-R, objectively and subjectively. Can't wait for the 991 GT3, PDK or manual, whatever Porsche decides to do.
Please see the link below. Like most things in life, things change. I have not seen the new Porsche Turbo lap time at The Nurburgring but as for right now, the 2013 GTR(7:16) is on top of the fastest production Porsche; A Porsche GT2RS(7:24) with Cup Tires! That's pretty impressive for a car that is almost half the price and much heavier. Those guys in Japan must be doing something right. If you look at the notes in the list of top times you will notice back in 2010 that the 2011 Nissan GTR ran 7:24.22 in semi wet conditions. If I remember correctly, this time was done in a practice lap since the rain did not allow the Nissan team to get a clean lap in.

I love Porsche's but I believe that Nissan has finally given Porsche the push to the next level which no other sub $100K car could.

dont think the sub 100k number is fair now given that the base price of a gtr is about 97. with one or two options or the destination fee it'll be more than 100. and im sorry but porsche honestly is not comparable to nissan. i respect the gtr for its performance but that is about it. porsche has not made a single purpose car in the turbo like the gtr has. the turbo has been perfected since the first 911 and has class that puts it way out of the gtr's league. if porsche wanted to just throw an engine and some performance figures in the car then yeah maybe it wouldnt be 137k. but honestly, for the performance AND luxury that you get that the gtr lacks i would say that at 137 the turbo is a bargain compared to what it can compete with

GTR is a very very quick and impressive machine. But it's no where near the caliber of car as a Porsche 911. Comparing the two, while tempting- isn't really fair to either brand. The GTR being very fast and ceases to impress with performance; it's overall fit and finish falls short- greatly- compared to ANY modern Porsche.

If the GTR was built to the same standard as a Porsche, it would easily be in the Turbo price range.

Again, I think Nissan could do this if they wanted to- there are certainly people who would buy it.

Regardless it's a fun machine.

Ive driven alot of porsche and own turbos and GT3s and the GT-R is just as impressive,no doubt it is an awsome machine! The interior is not as good as the Porsche as said above. But it is still not bad at all. It is still miles ahead of the interior of a f430,first gen gallardo just for an example.

the updated GT-R,the 2011 and 2012 is much better compared to the older 09-10.

I was simply stating that Nissan has closed the gap in the comparable production turbo sports car category when it comes to the performence department. Hands down the interior and allure of a Porsche Turbo is of greater magnitude.

I have to admit though, it feels good when people ask "Excuse me, what is that car"?

Having a unique sports car is not what drove me to purchase a GTR but it is a bonus. I chose it purely on the performence and reliability.

You're absolutely right.

While driving one two months ago, we had people pull up and give us the 'thumbs up'- one guy, in his 20's rolled his window down and asked "How's it feel to drive a super car?"

I thought that was pretty cool.

Sure the Nissan GT-R is faster around the Nuerburgring than any 911. However, it comes down to this: do you want to buy your car so you can brag about how your car is the fastest production car that can go around the Nuerburgring (Nissan GT-R), or do you want to buy your car because you understand Nuerburgring times really don't mean anything compared to the pleasure of driving your car in a realistic setting (911).

Don't get me wrong the GT-R is a awesome all around performer. Just think of it this way: When Porsche is developing the 911, spyshots come out everyday from all around the globe, the Nuerburgring, the Arctic Circle, Death Valley, Los Angeles etc. However with the GT-R the majority of spyshots are from the Nuerburgring. Which one would you expect to be faster around the Nuerburgring?
