Ruf has the NA 8 in their green or whatever car that came out about a year ago. It could happen, but I am leery.

With all the gas and emissions going on, a 6cyl is better for fuel, etc. And the turbo part makes it even better. Even Ferrari is looking into less cylinders. I just don't think it is going to happen. I DO think that if I needed to keep my name all over the world in a marketing frenzy all the time to help sell cars, ie the Porsche Germans, I would do all this talking as well. Free advertising.

^^ The racing driver did also say that they would switch to an 8 cylinder for emission reasons. It makes no sense. The only thing I could possibly think of is the engine wouldn't have to work as hard, but it still doesn't really make sense. I do however think I'd be okay if Porsche introduced a flat-8.

Exactly, it doesn't make sense, because an engine runs more efficiently on full throttle than on partial load (apart from one that is set up to run best on part throttle, but that wouldn't be a sportscar engine). I'd personally like an 8-cylinder 911. If Porsche does it, they will make sure the engine is so good that everyone will forget the flat-6 the moment they drive the 8-cylinder. But all that is still speculation.

After taking a second glance at this I am going to have to agree with the title shouldn't have just been changed. I am reverting it now. Thanks to all who expressed their concern.

Exactly what he said, and these aren't even direct quotes: "The GT3 RS LE will be the last 6 cylinder 911. The new 911 will get an 8 Cylinder engine. I've already driven it in Germany, and it also had no rear seats". Most of that is fact. There are 8 cylinder 911 prototypes. Whether it's a V8 or flat-8 is unknown. It is also unknown whether Porsche was just testing an 8 cylinder, or if that is the route they're going.

And h20skier, I agree. It doesn't make sense...
And I understand source confidentiality, as I can not give up mine either. The guy who told me about your farting and booger eating DIRECTLY quoted a German national champion fart smeller and booger eater. He says he even has the conversation stored on his Iphone! I do not doubt him at all. Most of what he said is fact. You do fart in your sleep. If it is smelly or not is unknown. Also unknown is if you actually eat your boogers or if you just have periodically sampled them.

I know it's true. Someone I have never met in person in my lifetime told me on the internet that a champion fart smeller says it's true. And for gosh sakes we even traded information over the internet! Therefore it is the absolute truth.

(Did I say that outloud?)

Going back to the RUF V8 specs:

The engine boasts a 4.5-litre displacement, producing 542bhp at 8500rpm and 369lb ft at 5400rpm.

The RGT-8 produces more power than the most recent 911 GT2 but without its twin turbos.
I sure hope Porsche doesn’t go this route, because that is a load of marketing baloney.

The 997 GT2 does “only” produce 523HP at 6500 rpm, but it also produces 500 lb-ft of torque at 2200 rpm. By comparison that 542HP V8 will feel like a complete turd.

RUF is going the way of the E92 M3 with this engine. Make it a low-torque V8, but rev the crap out of it so that you can claim a big HP number. Want more horsepower to brag about, just spin it faster. HP=(Torque x RPM)/5252 afterall. I’m sure the exhaust note sounds fantastic, but it will feel anemic just like the E92 M3 (which is still a very nice car).

Well, since it came from my computer it has to be true. My computer wouldn't lie to me.

In all seriousness, believe what you want. It's speculation with an in-direct source.

And thanks DJ for the title change back. If it still seems unsuitable, you could put maybe in parentheses next to rip?

Thanks for the thick skin. Been with the Pcar family for a long time, know the guys in Atlanta and the factory. Don't see it happening, if it does I promise a public apology and flogging.
