Because if we never messed with a great thing, we would all still be driving Model T's...

This is almost exactly what I just told him. The moving it forward and losing the rear seats is the key. Yes they make a Cayman but this would be different and well needed to keep up with the newest and baddest Ferrari's.
No, but ya, we tend to think alike in those aspects given the discussions over the years lol. And IMHO, you are the crowd that they are really targeting now. As far as Im concerned, the "sports" car category is dominated by the lighter buzzy cars (eg lotus, caterham etc)...anything bigger either has to be true "GT" racing purposed, or its going to Grand Touring Sportscars...hell, the whole segment should be GTS now.

Why would Porsche even think about putting 8 cylinders in the 911 if they are coming out with a panny-based coupe that will obviously have a V8 in it.

Just doesn't make sense.

^ it makes perfect sense. A pany based coupe is front engine. 911 rear engined. Both are completely different in driving styles.

as much as I want that car to come out...its A not official, and B would likely use different variations of V8 even if both came out. Audi does it to a degree with the R8/RS5...actually, the rs5s come tho think has an even more tweeked engine...but its GT and has to carry more weight...so

I think the question we should all be asking ourselves is: If the 991 came with Flat 6 or optional V8 for a similar price (+/- 10%), which one would you choose? I think we all know the answer. . .

Guys, chances are it will get a flat-8 instead of a V8.

I say that they make it another named 911. Right now, there are 20 different variations of the 911 that can be bought when you go to the Porsche website. Ranging from the Carrera to the Speedster with C4s, etc in between.

I saw this prototype on the Nordschleife the other week too, and it was no V8.
