Ruf 550

Did it feel more powerful?
Absolutely. Enormous difference. Massive surge in torque that is consistently available at all RPMs. Easily controllable in daily driving.
You may want to ask Doug (TTGasman) how his car ran in comparison to a GIAC/Tubi tune.

Also, look into an intercooler upgrade. A vendor dynoed a 92 HP gain with such.
Are Ruf's HP gains claims to the wheels?

You may also want to consider EVOMS as well. They're very reputable and do great work. Not sure what it costs compared to RUF but Todd and his crew definitely know what they're doing. I drove their EVO GT650 back in May and it was pretty incredible. They can build you a car with up to 1200 hp if that's what you want.

brnsrgn,
You have a lot of options and way to make your money go further nowadays. The Ruf name used to hold alot more value before the rest of the Porsche Tuning world caught up. The reality is that now you could talk with Switzer, Protomotive or EVOMS and save 5-7K and still have the performance of the RUF 550 if not better power. All three of the companies above provide a car that has showroom stock driveability and reliability. I have driven quite a few of the RUF cars as well as cars tuned and modified by all of the tuners I listed above. I would certainly shy away from paying the RUF premium and getting more bang for your buck with an equally capable tuner. My decision criteria would be solely based on location of the nearest tuner.
Hope this helps.
Ben.

My concern was that EVOMS seems to work with lots of different vendors, is RUF going to be higher quality since they are Porsche only. I plan on keeping this car for a long time, quality is priority number 1.
I also thought it was interesting that when the 997TT first came out, Ruf was one of the last manufacturers to release a tuning package. Why? They have direct access to Porsche, and have plenty of $$ for development, as well as decades of experience with the Metzler block. Did they do more extensive testing and R and D on their package, or were they just slower??
15K for 80 HP is a lot. I want to make sure I am paying for 1) a substantial change in the vehicle, and 2) Getting my $$ worth in quality.
