IMO, while the Submariner and Rolex's are watches that hold their value better than other watches - they're SO boring. Everytime I see one I think of your typically Wall Street wannabe. I've never seen a Rolex and been like " woooooaaaah... nice watch!! ", but maybe because that's because every Joe Shmo has one.
IMO, not every "Joe Shmo" has a $5k+watch. why try to punk someone and their decisions to spend hardearned money?

i say, get the watch, the one you are leaning towards, yourself. it is an achievement to be able to consider something like this and those that do not agree have never had their feet on the ground anyways...

I never said it wasn't a good watch. I think it is a great watch, however I just think its very very common.

I had the impression that this was his first watch, but it seems like he has a nice rounded collection, so in that case go for it.

Most people I know who are into watches, typically always chose to get a Submariner for HS/College Graduation. Guess it's just a coincidence.

not one person i know got a thing for HS/college graduation outside of a diploma.

it still remains; this is a nice purchase and one shouldn't be made to think it isn't.

looking forward to the pics of the purchase!

I can realistically think of over a dozen people I know who received Submariners as graduation presents.

If you really want it, then get it. It's still a big/impressive purchase and a great watch. It's definitely a classic.

You can't go wrong with a Submariner. But maybe also consider a GMT II SS?

Submariner is awesome, but I do agree I know people who got them when graduating college/hs. Still want one though. Or a breitling superocean.
