Your next watch

Oh, it was one of my grails. It ended up just coming down to it being too small for my wrist, so I never wore it. It was great at first, but that was just the awesome feeling of me finally owning one. I am 100% sure that the same thing would happen to me if I ever bought a Patek... That's why I will never own a watch under 43mm again.

tnc as always

socal deep sea ftmfw. mate has one and let's just say he doesn't have the body/personality to be a natural fit yet it still looks mad great. love the brushed bracelet, love the maxi dial, love the crown, domed case; just not so sure about the script all over the watch.
and imo ingenieur > speedie > tg
slacker i agree the deep sea seems to be more well rounded (pun not intended) than the new sub ceramic which looks to be a bit out of proportion. unlike the gmt2c which just worked

I was originally thinking of a black SS sub, but after seeing both in person that idea went away. Don't like the new proportions, old one too small. Really don't like the magnified date on either.
The deepsea is nice, not really in the price range I'm looking for, maybe I'll try it on at some point though.

I wanted the same watch for awhile, but I never got around to it. I'm glad actually. While I like the watch aesthetically (rugged, versatile, iconic) and appreciate its history and cultural significance (James Bond, etc.), I would just hate to spend $7-$8k on something so common. I really like watches, but I'm not really sure what my first substantial purchase will be, so I'm holding off for the time being. I'm considering a SS Daytona (w/ black face) because I like the oystser case, the motorsports connection, etc. Plus, it's not as prevalent as the sub. Only problem is I'd rather spend that money on coilovers, lwfw, bbs e88, michelin pilot super sports, etc. for my 993

If the sub is the most prevalent watch, the Daytona has to be the second. If you don't want common, then don't get a Rolex as they make >900,000 watches per year. If you are shopping Daytona, I'd go for an AP royal oak. It has good size, it is classic design, and not very common as most AP buyers go for the bulkier offshore models.

^ I see what you're saying and agree. Typically the sub crowd is different than the daytona crowd. I was never a big fan of the Royal Oak Offshore, even after trying them on. I think because of this I typically did not like the royal oak as well. However, after seeing a 39mm royal oak, I must say that it is a fabulous bracelet watch. Such a simple elegant piece. Doesn't matter because all APs are out of my price point for a little bit anyways. Let us know when you are closing in on your next purchase!
