My comments will follow..... I can't belive it.....

Cannes terror panic - fake Friday the 13th terror attack. Guests at the Film Festival cower in fear as masked men with black flags on their boats and suicide belts storm the Hotel du Cap Eden-Roc – unaware that it was a PR STUNT....

The French internet start-up company ORAXY 'stormed' a hotel favoured by Hollywood A-list celebrities near Cannes as part of an ill-judged PR stunt. The company sent a rigid inflatable boat carrying a load of 'commandos' to the hotel. Guests cowered in fear as the men, who guests feared were terrorists, approached. The six men, who were on a boat flying a black flag, approached the Hotel du Cap Eden-Roc, which is about 25 minutes outside Cannes. A spokesman for France's National Police force said: 'It was not a terrorist attack. It was a communication effort and publicity for an Internet site. a hotel spokesman said the stunt was 'just a bad joke - a really bad one'. One guest said: 'We were caught off guard. And then someone screamed and people jumped out of their chairs and started moving quickly to the swimming pool area. It was pretty scary. The fact that men appeared to be dressed like an ISIS-like militia group was quite shocking. The du Cap’s personnel demonstrated a quintessentially French sangfroid. The hotel staff continued to serve food to guests, but security was called and within several minutes they were on the scene. As it happens, Friday was the 13th. It was also the first Friday the 13th in France after last November’s Paris attacks, which claimed the lives of 130 people and also occurred on a Friday the 13th.

Oraxxy
The Paris based company, Oraxy, claims it is the world's first private global marketplace reserved exclusively for UHNWI - ultra high net worth individuals. According to one insider, the website is an 'e-Bay for the one per cent.' The source said: 'Already there are five 100 metre yachts on the site. It is designed to be a place were the super rich can keep in contact securely. 'The plan is to have high-end art works, expensive watches and pretty much anything else the super rich want or need. But to become a member, you have to be amazingly wealthy.' A spokesperson for Oraxy, who would not identify the owners of the firm, confirms it was a publicity stunt, noting that the event was coordinated with maritime authorities. "It was definitely not planned to look like a terrorist attack. The owners [of Oraxy] feel very badly about it. It wasn't meant to frighten people."Still, despite the response to its initial caper, the firm intends to continue with additional plans. "They are hoping to do other actions in Cannes [during the festival] if the weather improves," the spokesperson added. (By Saturday afternoon thunderstorms had arrived.) "I can say that it will be something more sporty."

A police spokesman told that the men involved in the stunt had earlier tried to breach a sea exclusion zone around Cannes but had been repulsed by the authorities. He said that the men then tried to land at the hotel. Paramilitary gendarmes seized the boat, but the men were not formally arrested. "These men know that they have really overstepped the mark and today they feel ashamed," he added. A justice official told that those behind the stunt were "likely to pay very dearly," and would be prosecuted for breaking maritime rules and for inflicting "psychological trauma". The authorities were also investigating who owns the boat and rented it out, he said. The Oraxy situation developed as Cannes remains on a heightened security alert following an extensive city-wide security audit overseen by security consultant Israeli Brig. Gen. Nitzan Nuriel, an expert in counter-terrorism hired by the city following the November attacks. Hundreds of soldiers, police and security agents have been deployed as the city braces itself against any potential terror attack. The Interior Ministry staged an extensive drill in April involving fake car bombs. Elite police forces staged a simulated terror attack at the Palais des Festivals, the venue for the main screenings in preparation for the festival.

Meanwhile, air and sea exclusion zones have also been declared, as well as a ban on drones, and Mayor David Lisnard has said random searches will be conducted in the streets of Cannes. But Mayor Lisnard dismissed concerns that the tight security will throw a wet blanket over the parties, glitter and glamour of the event. He said: 'Do you think an attack brings merriment? We have succeeded in preserving the festival atmosphere. 'The public will be at the foot of the (red-carpeted) steps. All the parties will be authorised but security must be taken care of.' The extra measures have been put in place following the Paris terror attacks, which left 130 people dead in November. France has been in a state of emergency ever since. French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said the festival was at high risk of attack, but they had put in place 400 security agents to guard the Palais des Festivals, not to mention hundreds of extra police officers and security forces ready to act if needed. Cannes already has 500 CCTV cameras, making it the most closely monitored town in France. But this is not the first time organisers have been on high alert. In 1978, French authorities thwarted an attack on the film festival when they discovered a bomb on the Palais des Festivals stage.

Some 45,000 people are expected to visit the event, with nearly 90 feature films set to be shown in this year's official selection, 21 of which are in the running for the Palme d'Or. Several billionaires have parked their superyachts along the Riviera for the festival - Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen's 'Octopus' was in Nice and Spielberg's 'Seven Seas' in Antibes.

Comments to the threat assessment

My first thought was: Cute. Was the purpose to make a fool of the French police??? Well I can tell you. They succeeded. Again.

In my previous threat assessments I have predicted this lack of real security. I have said over and over again that the French Police are amateurs. Did you see how they were running away from gun fire in Paris??? This time it was not for real, but this sort of PR stunt in today's political climate is nothing short of brainless. They should be taken to the cleaners for doing this. And Oraxy should be shut down before it's allowed to start up. Appallingly bad taste, bad judgement, thoughtless and disrespectful. This caused real fear to the people in the hotel, so it's actually a terror act in itself, someone needs to be jailed to set an example. Before long, one of these stupid stunts is going to lead either to an innocent person having a heart attack, or to one of the idiots involved in the hoax being attacked by courageous people keen to defend others. I hope it's the latter.

My respond: Why didn't security deep six that craft??? How did they get ashore in one piece? What lessons have actually been learned?
If the Security Forces were on the ball that boat would've been obliterated before it hit the shore. I would have fired warning shoots. Can't believe how Security Forces just froze and stared.

The mini analyze: They were dressed as soldiers, resembling French Special Forces. A terrorist organisation operating outside of their areas In Iraq/Syria would most likely be plain clothed when they commit atrocities. The lack of communication has been a problem also in the past. One part of the security organisation does not communicate with the other. The security forces maybe thought it was colleges from another agency.

On a side note: Eclipse is abramovich's super yacht. Even his private Russian security team didn't do anything.

About ORAXY: Absolutely unacceptable behaviour, they have to be severely punished.

Hi @monacobodyguards,

really interesting assessment regarding what happened. Certainly you are a pro in that business so you can comment deeper what happened. To me it seems quite strange that nobody from local maritime was informed since, i tell you for my experience, any activity in the bay (especially a stunt act like that) has to be properly authorized. If now, well those guys have been quite lucky nobody shot at them! Especially in France, especially during this historical moment, and with those VIPs there at the moment (i.e. Eclipse)

Ciao!

This year, the talented YouTube star-turned-major label vocalist Jasmine Thompson will open the Charity Fashion Show where the F1 drivers will showcase tailor-made Apsley suits accompanied by F1 ladies and international supermodels dressed with Osman’s creations. After the gourmet diner, Thompson will then get the crowd on their feet with energising performances at the club not only on Friday, but also on Saturday. During Saturday’s day of qualifying, guests can recline onboard the luxury Amber Lounge celebrity yacht and enjoy F1 driver appearance, trackside views, and an open bar and gourmet diner. For the first time ever, the Saturday night of this year’s Amber Lounge Extravaganza will bring together some 20 extraordinary entertainment acts for one night: burlesque dancers, hip-hop dancers, saxophonist, drummer, DJs, singers...

For Sunday’s race day, guests can once again walk up the passerelle of Amber Lounge’s exclusive yacht to watch the competition unfold before them. “An al fresco F1 Driver Post Race Party is the most anticipated night of the weekend,” say organisers, “It’s where F1 drivers and teams gather for post-race celebrations.”

MB's - What is going on

The Cannes Film Festival remains the most prestigious in the world, with a renowned party scene that matches its premier red carpets in exclusivity and glamour.

A round-the-clock procession of parties from the Croisette to the famous Hôtel du Cap, at sea aboard super-yachts anchored in the Mediterranean, and in the sky - rooftop lounges, like Chopard’s premier suite, keep champagne flowing at all hours. It ensures that the festival feels like the most lavish of fever dreams. “There’s probably no other festival that can combine art, commerce, and scandal in one place and make it so classy and elegant,” says Danish director Nicolas Winding Refn. “It’s like going to the Danceteria when I was young and the night lasts for a week.”

Everyone from bodyguards, photographers and gate crashers to the A-list stars and Russian billionaires, dress in their finest black-tie. And although there have been a few modern precautions installed. The increased number of security guards and dogs patrol party perimeters. Expert spotters are brought in to identify those attempting to enter events with a fake name. The Croisette is charmingly old school, even if it incurs the frustration of event planners.

Chopard Gala

The first trophy designed and created by Chopard was introduced in 1998. Since then the Swiss luxury brand and the film festival have been inseparable. At this years Festival Chopard featured a live performance from one of the great divas, Diana Ross. A legend.
