Germany in February

I will be spending almost a week in Germany in early February, particularly in Frankfurt, Mainz, Stuttgart, Munchen, Nurnberg and Bonn/Coln. I will be renting a car to get around. What places should I definitely see? I realize that I am trying to see a lot of places in a very short time snap. Any suggestions where I can look for hotel reviews/bookings?

You're making quite a trip - there's some fabulous things to do...

- Porsche Museum in Stuttgart is an absolute must. I'm going on the 23rd December again, though I fear what I see won't make it into Santa's sack. It's an amazing place with some (most) incredible Porsches with world class provenance. Porsche Museum - About Porsche - Home - Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG

- Next, well you need a decent hire car for at least some of your journey - and staying on the Porsche theme, why not hire a new Panamera from Avis. They also have 911's and Cayenne's on their stock list! I believe the new Panamera is €189 Euro's per day and the 911 is €199 Euro's per day. Not cheap, but what a great way to enjoy your trip to the full?! Avis Autovermietung - Panamera

- And you can't go to Germany without visiting the Nürburgring development. They've spent a small fortune there in 2009 and now have a Mall featuring the likes of Aston Martin and Ferrari stores where you can buy everything from a keyring to a One-77! And if shopping won't properly cut-it, then you can do a few laps on the track from just €20 Euro's I believe... Hell, take your 911 Hire Car for a few laps!

That would be my top 3 things to do. I live in the UK and have a German wife, so I'm there quite a bit. I also run my own Members Club for driving enthusiasts, and we've planned a great trip for the Nordschleife, but we're not there until August... If you want some more details, don't hesitate to contact me directly.

In terms of Hotels... don't expect too much in Germany!

- The Anna Hotel in Munich is nice. €180 per night. Geisel Privathotels: anna hotel - Munich Design Hotel
- Boston Hotel in Hamburg is cool. Hotel Boston Hamburg
- The Pure Hotel in Frankfurt is my last recommendation. The Pure Home

Hope that reply helps. Have a great trip!

Best, Paul

I don't know in which order you plan on seeing these places but be reminded that February is Winter in Germany and travel can be a bisnooootch or quiet frankly impossible. Would definitely not rent a P-cat in February, all Rentals come without specific Winter tires.

Here are two sites for smaller boutique hotels in Gemany ...

Great small hotels

Paul and Schwabe,

Thanks a lot for all the suggestions. We are flying into and out of Frankfurt.

Here is our journey plan so far:

Frankfurt>Mainz>Stuttgart> Munich/Fussen>Nurmburg>Bonn/Koln

and I don't think renting a P-car in February will be too much fun due to cold weather.

Thanks again.

I stayed at the intercontinental in frankfurt this summer, wonderful hotel. Booked on priceline (Name your own price) came out to 70 euro a night. We paid an extra 20 a night for the superior rooms. Was one of the nicest hotel rooms we had the entire trip, i'll see if i can find a pic.

Traveling in Germany during February will be a challenge. Cinderalla's castle is a must, a visit to the Mercedes factory/museum is fun, and Munich is magical. I also like Heidelberg and the castles perched over the river.

Awesome trip! I spent a week in Stuttgart not long ago and did the porsche museum, porsche stuttgart, AMG factory, Techart and Gemballa. I am sure the rest of the country is amazing but for a car guy does it get any better???

Exactly! I rented a 997 C2S Cab (pdk) and it was AWESOME. so easy (like renting a ford focus in the states) and totally worth the money.

Shoot me a pm if you have any other questions. Have fun and take pics!

I'm going to Germany in the end of March to early April. Where did you rent your 997 from?
