Wider tires

Hi guys,

I have an issue that maybe some of you could help me out with.

My car's OE size is 205/45/17. I don't really like that size because I feel it's a bit lacking in grip and the tire selection isn't great. I would really like to change my tire size and fit it with wider tires, wider than it's +1 size which is only 215/40/18.

The question is, how can I achieve that?
Is there a possibility to re-calibrate the car's meters, so that wider tires could be fitted without disrupting the whole system?

What car do you have? I understand that now you have 17" and want to go 18" and wider?

The circumference difference (which is the only thing to worry about) is 2% between those two sizes - no need to recalibrate anything.

It's a 2010 Mazda MX-5 GT. I want to go wider than 215 (and I would love for the rear to be wider than the front), It doesn't have to be an 18" wheel. The point is wider not necessarily bigger.
