I think nirvana's (and kurt's) appeal was that they weren't good. Listen to negative creep, or in the pines from the NY unplugged. Raw as hell, unpolished, but the feeling is what makes it worthwhile.

Which is what early grunge/ garage is. Doesn't justify it, it only justifies my opinion of them been utter crap.
Sure, some of the lyrics were well written ( the ones you can here ), and at the end of day it's just not my type of music.
