Be advised though, my impressions are its a .22. Mostly plasticky (and i mean most the weapon period), though alot of fun to shoot, its only a .22 and that gets old quick. My wife has one, and ive shot it, got old about 20 rounds into it.
Its definately not a AR-15 type .223 rifle. Its a .22, as long as your good with that, its a lot of fun for a few minutes. Just my .02

.22's are good to go out here, I'm pretty sure. That's what I would recommend... even a Tactical .22lr would still be fun at 1/2 the cost, and super cheap ammo. You can always keep it for practice and fun (especially for the ladies). I will prob be picking up a .22lr tactical before I even start building my AR. I've been eying this one...
Magazines seem to be a bitch to load too.. fyi.

Yea I think they actually have one for rent over at Oak Tree... For me it's either the M&P 15-22 or the Sig 522, plus it will mostly be for the wife, and for some fun/practice at the range... Now when it comes time for "my AR" I have alot of decisions to make

A lot of love here for the S/W MP-15/22.

Very true, that is why I went with a 10/22. Cheaper and more parts available and probably more fun on a day to day basis than any weapon I own.

Plus the fact - who would want to spend close to $1k on a Tactical .22lr because it had a Forged receiver??
Now anything larger than .223 I would def. not be happy with Plastic...

The perks for me, and please correct me if i am wrong, is:
- Price point and what I can do with it.
- allows me to start with something basic that I can learn with
- And if I buy it, and like shooting, but not enough to spend 1k+, then I've saved some money.
- ammo appears to be cheaper.
- I'm not a big guy by any means, so I'm sure I would be fairly comfortable with it.
- Not planning on taking any zombie's down with it.
- Appears to be very reliable as long as it has been modified by SW.
Anything that I'm wrong about or something that should be taken into consideration?

In your opinion, and as a future shop owner, do you believe this would make a good first rifle?

Sure, its a great little plinker, low cost to use, and own. Agreed. Would I personally buy it as my first rifle, no (mine was a AK variant). But thats me. Dropping 1k on a rifle is alot of dough. The popularity of the .22 rifles is growing by leaps and bounds right now. Mainly due to the fact they are close to the AR platform, offer almost identical handling, and can be used as a training tool at a much reduced cost. Many police departments and such are using them now for just that reason.
I would strongly recommend heading to a local gun shop. Leave your wallet at home(dont get pressured into buying something on the spot)!!! Handle both a AR and the .22 version of one. They definately have a very different feel.
At the very least, congrats on trying to do some research.
