Need advice on getting my first rifle.

This summer I plan on getting my first rifle. I've been to the shooting range quite a bit and spent time shooting quite a few rifles, time and time again I would find myself going to the M1 Carbine. It was fairly easy for me to shoot accurate constantly and over all it felt very comfortable to use.

I have thought about getting one, but seeing how it would be my first and not something I know much about so I am turning to my TS brothers....Thoughts and advice will be greatly appreciated.

In short, I'm looking for a good first gun, something that is relatively easy to maintain and work with, and something that I can eventually grow with.

Also, something that is legal in commiefornia!

LMT/Colt/Noveske/BCM AR-15 with a bullet button.

Easy to use, plenty of parts, ammo is comparably reasonable, mod-ability if you leave CA.

Or a Remington 700 with a nice scope if you're more into precision.

What do you want to use this rifle for? Busting watermelons, hunting, range toy, bragging rights?? Too vague of question to give you an answer. Do you want semi or bolt? Fixed sights or glass? Give me some stuff to work with..

I would be going to the range with it. Never shot a bolt, so ill stick with semi.

What's the difference between a fixed sight and glass, you mean an iron sight and a scope? I have never preference, but I'd eventually like to get a decent sight of some sort.

Id second the AR. Lots of parts, plenty of stuff to mod it and make it "tacti-cool" for the range.

You can even build it multi-purpose, switching uppers from a carbine to heavy barrel ect.

So its safe to say an AR would make a good first gun?

It surely wont make a bad first weapon.
