We've just had another update and pictures from Koenigsegg.
After producing all the carbon body panels, monocoque and performing a pre-fit at station 2 its finally its time for paint!
Koenigsegg have spent over 600 hours on building their unique monocoque. They will utilize a different mixture of carbon fibre pre-preg materials, aluminium honeycomb core and hundreds of hours producing the body panels, all of which is baked in the autoclave.
As with most other things, Koenigsegg paint their cars in house. Its painstakingly long process, but we are told that the end result will make the wait worthwhile.
Incredibly, Koenigsegg will spend over 1000 man-hours on the paint!
They will wet sand and polish between the 6 layers of clear coat which will result in what we hope will be a simply stunning finish.
As you know, we have decided on the colour but we're not going to say until we have the photos of the car after it's been painted. But which colour do you think we have decided on?

This sounds like great project, but how do you spend 1000 hours on paint, that’s 25, 40 hour weeks on paint alone
Now before you all jump down my neck on this I need to point out that I have painted show winning cars for over 25 years, some of which have required 30 coats of paint due to their complexity. None has required this length of time and I suspect this paint job will be no where near as complex either.
I have spent a great deal of time around Eggs and have always complemented them on the quality of the paint; they are one of the better ones in the industry, but not 1000 hours worth.
If someone from Koenigsegg would like to put me straight I would be very happy to listen and be correct
