It's probably cheaper for Hennessey to just get the parts they need, rather than buying donor cars.

Somehow it doesn't do a whole lot for me. I can't go beyond the "well this is just a stretched Elise".

I'm going to disagree having seen a Venom GT in person. I would consider this far from being "just a tuned car" Regardless of the similarities in pictures it doesn't look much like an Elise in person. The geometry is quite different.
