I think a nascar engine would fit great. Can Those engines handle a nascar race gumball Will be a piece of cake. There's a ford GT40 in norway with a nascar engine. That car is frickin insane

There is only one engine that I would like to see in that awesome build car:

2.8 liter V8 busa engine, 455bhp @ 10.500 RPM! Very low weight.

Imagine a TT or supercharged version...

I would look at the same engine that they use in the Ariel Atom V8.
500 hp, 10.5k redline and super light weight.

Center of the Atom V8 is the lightweight 3 litre normally aspirated engine built for Ariel in the USA. Flat plane crank, forged pistons, chain driven double overhead cam with 4 valves per cylinder and revving to 10,500 rpm, the all alloy and aluminium engine has race car specification throughout. Dry sump lubrication, 8 throttle bodies with sequential fuel injection and ceramic coated stainless exhaust are all part of the standard specification and, due to the compact nature of the engine, the installation fits perfectly in to the Atom engine bay. Each engine is individually tested, signed off and numbered to match the number of the car

I thought of this at first too. The 3.0L Hartley H1 V8 (that used in the Palatov dp1 and Ariel Atom V8) makes 500bhp.

The problem may be it only makes ~210lb-ft of torque. It does weigh ~300lbs less than the Nascar V8 setup. But hard to argue with 850hp and 750+lb-ft of torque. Naturally aspirated.

There are turbo setups for the Hartley:
Holeshot Racing : Hartley H1V8, Hayabusa V8, V8 engine, twin turbo v8, V8 busa, ariel atom, ariel 500
Power options are 650, 800 and 1000bhp. But even in top spec it only makes 450lb-ft.
And I wouldn't trust that reliability.

More rotary information I found today.
This company RSC, Rotary Supercars, (http://www.raptor-gt.com/) is going to be building their own car using a 2.6L 4-rotor with up to 1200bhp on E85 or 800bhp on 100octane(Euro). If you don't want the trouble of having to find those fuels, I am sure 700+hp is possible on premium fuel. More than enough with the weight of the car, especially considering the light weight of the rotary.

Or bnrsupercars.com does turbo Mazda engines. No power numbers on their website.

If you feel really ambitious and want to do something out of the box, out of the ordinary, I would LOVE to see a Two Stroke. The best option I see is a Mercury 300XS outboard. 3.2L V6 with Direct Injection. Makes about 350hp and is very light. You could always develop a twin turbo or supercharge setup for it.

This would make a solid setup, would be very original, and you could possibly sell the tt/sc setup to boaters.

As mentioned earlier, I would go with a NRE build. Nelson Racing Engines are the most extreme street engines on earth right now. Also, since they are made to run on the street, all pf his engines are daily drivable. These are the guys I'd be talking too.

Not only that, they turn a regular small block Chevy(or big block) into a better work of art than a Ferrari V12.

I wonder if they have the Revolution engine close to finish. A 500ci small block V8 that can rev to 9000rpm, make up to 2500hp(I am sure naturally aspirated will be enough for this car), beautiful billet block, billet collectors, etc, and the first company to produce symmetrical turbos.

If this engine is available yet, my vote goes here.
