Hahaha I don't even know what to say... I guess you would have wheelspin in 4th gear with an engine like that

LOL that's insane.

Was he suggesting a SBC or an LSX based motor? I say do the LSX.

As everyone has noted Nelson doesnt F around... He's local to me, and I've actually worked with him a tiny bit in the past. Guy knows his stuff, and builds some incredible engines.

One of my Favorites Engines...

Nelson Racing Engines - Engine Photos

And one of my favorite cars - Sean's uncles Car (Gah993's)- actually had the pleasure to work a bit on this machine at Hot Rods and Hobbies before the engine was re-done at Nelson.

I have e mailed Nelson and Holshot, will keep you posted! Love the idea of Nelsons 860hp V8 but I also love the weight of the 3.0 V8 and the gearboxes that I could fit to that...(drove a Formel renault with a g-box that would fit this engine and loved it!) Think we could get the car down to 750-800kg with the 500 hp V8 set up... ;-) That would not suck at all! Will keep you posted!

The 3.0L V8 setup will be about 300lbs lighter than a NA SBC setup. So it would have handling advantages. Problem is you have to rev it to 10000rpm, not a big deal if it is used in track cars it was designed for. And I still don't trust reliability.

If you go that route, Dennis Palatov probably knows as much as anyone about using that engine and available transmissions. (He built the V8 Atom 3 years before Ariel, they just copied him) His new DP1 track car uses the 3.0L Hartley with a Hewland gearbox and Geartronix paddle shifter.

That would have a 3-4 month delivery time for the guys that was discussing delivery times from Nelson...

Will keep you posted!

Yeah, Tom is a crazy man. He prides himself on the ability to produce 1500+hp engines that are reliable and drive as easy as a stock V8. He builds some crazy flat torque curves, too. You gotta love an engine that makes 800hp at like 3000rpm.

The LSX is definitely a strong engine, but Nelson's SBC has no trouble with that. The weight savings of a small block made from Aluminum is much better than any small advantage of an LSX. The LSX probably weighs 200lbs more. I think it starts shifting when you get over 2000hp.
