Arsenal makes a signing:
Arsenal set to sign Olivier Giroud for £12m from Montpellier
Arsenal have agreed a deal to sign Montpellier striker and France international Olivier Giroud for £12m.
He will have a medical and paperwork will be completed after Euro 2012.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger intends to play him alongside fellow new signing Lukas Podolski and Dutch striker Robin van Persie in a front three.
The 6ft 3in forward, who was an unused substitute in France's 1-1Euro 2012 draw with England, scored 21 goals in his club's run to the Ligue 1 title.
Giroud is one of only two recognised strikers in the French squad, alongside Karim Benzema. He has six caps for his country and one goal.
Earlier this week, Montpellier manager Rene Girard told French radio station RMC that Wenger was leading a chase of top sides for the striker, who became his club's record transfer two years ago when he cost them £1.7m.
"Arsenal are very interested and Giroud wants to play in England. If Arsene agrees with the president, he will sign for them," he said.

He's a solid pickup, and it will especially be nice to have some more height up front. We're getting close on M'Vila too, but I'm a bit wary about him. Seems like he's had some team/manager integration problems in the past.
Like Ludas said above, I'm expecting VanP to go and don't think it would be the worst thing, but at the same time hoping he won't. If we can ditch Mertersacker and get a bit more solid in defense and holding, we're looking pretty good.
Last year we had to try and cram a bunch of guys in after the season had already started and, that considered, I think 3rd place was great. If we can get some of these new guys on board, and get a proper training and integration period I think we'll have a solid team that can compete for the title. City, Chelsea and United will be strong, Newcastle was a flash in the pan, and Tottenham and Liverpool face a major uphill battle after this offseason.
I like all of the moves that are going around right now. I can't wait for the season to start and see all the new team looks.

Manchester City are to press ahead with interest in Martin Skrtel. Liverpool are eager to improve Skrtel's current deal, but the fact he has yet to sign is offering City hope.
Swansea are keen to sign PSV Eindhoven midfielder Otman Bakkal. The 27-year-old Holland man is seen as a replacement for Liverpool-bound Gylfi Sigurdsson.
Manchester United may have to dig deeper than they imagined to land James Rodriguez after it emerged the free-scoring winger has a £40million buy-out clause in his Porto contract.
Alberto Aquilani is set to return to Liverpool with the Italian midfielder having received no offers from other clubs. Aquilani is under contract with Liverpool until June 2014.

I really hope that Skrtel stays at Anfield, he's been rock solid for us and his partnership with Agger is a huge asset to the club.
I'd like to see Rogers get on and bloody sign this Sigurdsson.
Will somebody please buy Aquilani? Please?

Guardiola is waiting for the Chelsea job
When Pep Guardiola announced that he wanted a break from football after managing Barcelona for four years, he was already the most successful coach in the club’s history. No wonder that Roman Abramovich tried to persuade him to cut short his sabbatical and oversee the new Chelsea revolution.
Of course, Di Matteo now has the job and a two year contract, but reports suggest that he might not be the manager for those two years. Guardiola has been approached by a number of big clubs, including Bayern Munich, but he has not spoken to any of them. Does he know something that we don’t?
“Five or six big clubs have asked about him but he doesn’t want to hear about it. Maybe things will be different in February or March.” His agent has stated.
In fact, the only person he has spoken to is Roman Abramovich. Barcelona are one of the biggest clubs in the world, and if he said he needed a break, then he needed a break. He would not be trying to get out of a contract to join a bigger club because there aren’t any.
He does, however want to try his hand in England. The new deal for TV rights in the Premier league is set to make English clubs the richest in the world. Guardiola could oversee Chelsea for years to come and make them the best team the world has ever seen.
In a years time, we could be seeing Guardiola’s first signing, Lionel Messi.
