The Official Mma Thread!!!
He guys, im a MMA fan particularly of the UFC & the WEC not so much Strikeforce. IMO its has too many freakshow scenarios going on and its a shame because there is quite abit of talent in that org regardless...anyways just wanted to get some MMA talk going on considering this coming weekend is the long awaited UFC HW fight between Lesnar and Carwin...

I really do see that happening...Carwin is tried tested and true...he dismantled Mir in such a convincing fashion it leaves near no doubt in my mind he will do the same with Lesnar, on side note, big ups to Leben for fillin in for Wandy

How in the world can you make that statement? The guy has never fought into minute #2 of the 1st round... Nothing to be ashamed of since obviously he is a beast, but do not tell me he is "tested" in anyway, shape or form... This is a fight of two freakish humans with hands the size of bowling balls! While I really like Shane, I think Brock pulls this one off!

Carwin is far more tested than Lesnar. No way around it.
I had my first MMA fight in 93, so you could say I'm a long time fan. Used to be Vale Tudo back in my day, then NHB, now MMA. Sadly, with the designation change to "MMA" it seems to become more of a marketing cash cow than a martial arts combat event. I do not like the direction the sport is going.
Every bad ass wanna be thinks he is, or can be a "fighter". Perhaps after nearly 30 years of training, I am biased, but most so called fighters nowadays are not at all impressive what so ever.
That said, Carwin is actually impressive as a fighter because of several reasons. The biggest being that he had not been one to rely on his size. He has taken to adding a great deal of training diversity that most big guys do not bother with.
Lesnar on the other hand is an example of what is wrong with this sport. He was chosen specifically because he is a spectacle.
Much of the crap that comes out of The Ultimate Fighter reality show does great things for attention to the sport, but shows that most of the guys getting into it area hard cases who have few other options, and just a couple years of mediocre training under their belt. They show "commitment" because they don't have much else going on. Gone are the days that guys did this because they wanted to out of martial spirit, and in are the days when every thug who figures he's a bad ass, or hard case jumps in because they are a train wreck to watch.
Hell... Most so called schools are not very technical in their teaching. That would be hard, and it would get "boring" to the ADHD inflicted gutter snipes of the world.
I'm gonna stop there... on the verge of a rant!

Choke, u obviously have a vastly superior knowledge of the sport compared to me... Can you please explain to me how Carwin is far more tested?
I also believe a lot of purist need to understand that this is a business driven sport not a passion driven sport and because of that we will see many more "freaks" who can simply win due to their athletic ability...

Choke, did a lil research on my end, I never knew Shane had 12 MMA matches under his belt, which compared to Brock is almost 3x as much (5 total).. That being said, I still think the "freak" (brock) wins Saturday night.
