The Blaugrana coach was content with his team hammering six goals past their opponents but he maintains that there’s still room for improvement.

Barcelona put in another ruthless, rampant performance to crush Malaga 6-0 at the Camp Nou last night, smashing in all half a dozen of their goals inside the first 55 minutes, but coach Pep Guardiola felt his side could have kept their foot on the gas until the final whistle.

Guardiola was by no means disappointed but he believes that his team can get even better from now until the end of the season.

“There are things that we can improve on. We did well in the first half and maybe the opening 15 minutes of the second, but the main objective of any team is to improve. I am sure that we can maintain playing at a high level for the full 90 minutes,” he said during the post-match press conference.

“But our transition between attack and defence was good and we played great offensive football. We managed to stifle Malaga’s counter-attacks and we were able to control their players.

“I am glad that the crowd enjoyed the game with us, but all credit must go to the players. In the end, it was their talent that made all the difference and without their talent and their humility, we would not have done anything.”

The Blaugrana, however, were forced to end the game without their entire original midfield line as Xavi, Toure Yaya and Andres Iniesta all had to be taken off due to injuries. But it wasn’t enough to dampen Guardiola’s spirit as he expects them back in action soon.

“They [Toure and Iniesta] suffered two small muscular injuries but in ten to fifteen days, they will be back,” he assured.

“As for Xavi, he has been having problems in his tendon for the past few days but he is brave and wanted to play on but he will be fine until the end of the season.”

Finally, Guardiola is confident that the upcoming international break will not disrupt his side’s recent return to form.

“On Saturday [after the internationals] we have a league game against Real Valladolid. I have a feeling that Real Madrid will not drop too many points, which is why we have to continue accumulating more,” he said.

“Then the following Wednesday, we resume the Champions League, so it’s important that the players re-connect quickly as soon as they return from international duty.”
