On a personal note, depending on how special the present needs to be, I'd recommend a Sassicaia, a great Super-Tuscan wine, which will keep for years! I got a bottle when I was born (God Father heavily into wine!) and drank it on my 18th birthday. It. Was. Outstanding. Good luck!!

Oh, and never underestimate Champagne...truly a universal wine...goes well with almost anything and Champagne prices are severely depressed...you can get a great deal...plus, it's festive...look at Krug, Veuve Clicquot, etc...
