Why does porsche have so many 911's??
#71
Ummm, the Cayenne is half of Pcar sales worldwide. Kinda makes them like, half of the companys overall profit. Panamera surpassed all other model lines, mid and rear engine, last month in overall sales. Why would you take over half of your income stream and toss it out the window. So you make less money and have less financial backing to continue to develop the sports cars?

Yes, I do understand you. The Cayenne sold so well because it was one of the cheapest cars Porsche had. Now it's not.
My idea for Porsche would be to build a 2,500 lbs car with a turbocharged flat/4 and 250hp, maybe a 2.0. Then they could price it at about 30k? Also, they could add an "S" model with a turbocharged flat/6 with upgraded brakes, and more standard features. Then Porsche would have a very, very, very fast 2 seater roadster. Maybe even call it the 914 (914/4, 914/6), throw in a couple 914/6 GTs, and why not make it a standard Targa top while they're at...
What do you think? Who needs four doors (pshhhhh).

[/QUOTE]Be honest, you dont have a lawn in Section 8 Housing. And that dollar wasn't a dollar, it was a food stamp!
I said lower the price of the 911.

They SHOULD however elmintate the Cayman S, lower the base price of the Cayman to $38,900- so you can get a sweet car for under $47MSRP. And with a little discouting buy it for nearly 43-44k.
Thats what they should do.

You can be as blunt and open minded as you like, its fine by me.
when i said, 'if you want unique, go after market", i don't mean, go buy a tech art or masonry body kit, you can change something simple as the rims or the steering wheel of your car, little changes can set your self off from everyone else...
or if you want something unique from the factory, what about Porsche's "personalization" program...

Section 8, right off the ninth hole and the clubhouse?

its called a USED Porsche silly rabbit. And no, Porsche should not produce a car with a base price of $30k. That's stupid.

There's an idea.
My guess is they won't change a thing any time soon. And I'm fine with that.

Simply wrong. No. Your imaginary conversation is totally bullshit. Any one of us here on TS are capable professional Porsche sales staff and managers who understand the nuances and capabilities of the Carrera line and are more than able to pair the client with the correct car for their needs and more importantly ability.
Questions like "what cars have you owned", "have you been active with PCA track DE", "have you done any driving schools", "are you planning to attend DE's or will this be primairly a street car", "are you the primary driver, will anyone else have the keys", are what a professional would ask. Not anything that ends in a ! as you clearly assumed a career Porsche "salesman" would do.
The simple difference is if you put a skilled track driver in a GT2, RS or not, they are more than likely going to be over their head quickly. That version of the Carrera demands a skillset that VERY few have achieved. Fitting a client to the correct car is not, and I quote you, " Thats even more ultimate! Thats even better!"
You state that you are a track guy, I appreciate that. When you do decide to look at a Carrera please feel free to check with your local dealer. If he is the moron you assume he will be feel free to contact myself, Stoppie, Eric or any of the career professionals on TS to guide you to the most suitable variant of the Carrera line. With some time and conversation I am certain you will be directed to the appropriate vehicle.

I appreciate your reply and if I ever plan on purchasing a 911, will do the neccessary research to adequately choose the right model for me.

I wasn't attempting to negatively talk about salesman/managers nor do I assume anyone is a "moron". I'm afraid you misunderstood me or perhaps I did not word it correctly, if so, I'm sorry. My fictional conversation was merely imaginative sarcasm. I was trying to illustrate how confusing it is to me, personally, on which model to go for based on my preferences, because to me, there are so many 911 models available.

Have a client who wanted a convertible to drive as a daily throughout the year. We get a lot of snow here. I suggested a Targa 4S as he is planning to do occasional track days as well. I am unaware of any other manufacturer that offers such a combination. A all weather daily driver with the pleasure of a convertible the comfort of a coupe and with the correct snow tires all season effortless driving. BTW he loves the car and drove it every day last year, sun, rain and snow.
Client comes in looking for a occasional driver for weekends, not a hard driver. Had a Carrera in the 70's, had kids but now are empty nesters. Base Carrera coupe, maybe a cab. Bought a Basalt black C2 cab with nav.
Crazed, manical, addicted track junkie walks in wearing his driving shoes. Looking out to the lot he drove a Exige S240 to the dealership. Says he wants "to step up" to a track ready Porsche. He's made the financial commitment and his wife approves. Wants something he can put a rollbar and a five point harness in. However it needs to be a daily driver except winter. He has a old Rover for the snow months. GT3, maybe an RS but the RS may be a little to costly. Have to work on the wife but the GT3 worked. Found a GT3, non RS, at a dealer I work with. Traded with them for a Turbo. Happy client, installed GT2 seats and five point harness.
Lastly guy drives in in a Balloon White LP640. Introduces himself by name and his law firm. Immediate rush of his ego and accomplishments. Admits he is not a "hard driver in the car, only in the courtroom". Says he likes to be unique, to have something no one else at the country club has. Bought a Bently Super Sport after his friend bought the Speed, Bought a SL65 after another partner in the firm purchased a SL600. He is a one up sort of guy. If it's possible to aquire a GT2 RS (doubtful) but a GT2 would make a statement. Have not finished this one yet.
Had an option to fit all their needs. Or with the GT2 it was more of a desire. Good thing there are so many different Carrera's. Different strokes for different folks.
P.S. Say "Hello" to Isabella for me. She looks like a beauty!
