Dutch Police (Highway Patrol)
During the 1970's and 80's the Dutch highway patrol had an elite unit that used Porsche 911 SC Targa's. Attached are some photos. All kids (well mostly boys I guess) including myself wanted to be a police officer and for one reason only. To legally speed on the Dutch highways! Rumor has it that the screening process for this elite unit was very strict. Candidates had to be married and have two kids, assuming that they would be more responsible than bachelors
Later, Porsches were replaced with Volvo's (S60 and others). According to the minister of transportation at the time they were less expensive and evenly effective. (yeah right...)
Before the 911, Fiat Spiders were used in an extended test (Fiat 124 Spider Abarth). They were replaced in the 70's because the Porsches were faster (220 km/h vs 200), more reliable and had a higher resale value after retirement. In the 60's Porsche 356 was used as well.
