"So when you start something new in the desert and with no apparent structural or financial limitations, it is a pity that we don't go the easy route and copy some of the the greatest corners in the world."

So if I am reading that part correctly...

"They should have copied elsewhere rather than make up something of their own."

Seems a pity to be that narrow-minded.

I feel weird saying this, but many people consider oval racing to be exciting.

My thoughts are that the speed differentials between the cars creates passing. Which is the obvious part. To compete, open the rules on engine and aero to allow actual creativity. There will be the same amount of research&design done on the cars, and therefore the same amount of money spent.

^^^They need to loosen up on the regs like you suggested but Whitmarsh does make a good point. If there are good passing corners at other tracks, why not copy aspects of them like making them wider to allow different lines? I think that's what he was getting at. Not copying the track exactly, but copying some of the general features that make the racing more exciting.

You have to make references to the older tracks. Not the new Tilke designed ones.
