Hispania Racing have dropped out of the Formula One Teams' Association (FOTA), citing "politics" as their reason.

Although all three 2010 newcomers joined FOTA last season, rumours emerged in December suggesting that Hispania were no longer a part of the group.

The rumours also claimed that the Spanish team's departure was due to their failure to pay the €100,000 membership fee.

However, Hispania, who have for the first time confirmed that they are no longer a member of FOTA, insist they left because of the group's politics.

"I am able to confirm we have left FOTA in December," a Hispania Racing spokesperson told The F1 Times.

"Hispania Racing wish FOTA the best in the future. But it made no sense for a small team as we are, because of the politics."

Hispania's decision means should the FOTA teams, all 12 excluding the Spanish outfit, vote on any changes to the regulations, Hispania will not have to abide by the ruling.
