Official: Formula One goes with 1.6-litre four-cylinder power

I love the V8s but I think the smaller displacement turbo engines have more relevance for most manufacturers and the cars will make just as much power with a lighter engine. It'll also be really interesting to see how the current crop of drivers adjusts to turbo lag.

Maybe I was a bit too harsh on my comment there, as I realized these smaller engines are a lot more realistic to end up in sports cars or hot hatches. The earlier engines were much larger and more extreme so who knows what this will do for the sports cars
Imagine a Cayman with one of those engines lol! The new CGT.

I still think they're ruining F1. F1 is not about "whats relevant to sports cars" and what not. F1 is supposed to be the no1 motorsport. F' green thinking! Go apeshit with twin turbo V12's instead. If they think they need to be more green and fuel efficient, transport all the shit by boat instead of plane to the first GP in Australia and you've saved more fuel then the cars will use in the entire season. Np Bernie, I know what's up.

hmm, so then what do the manufacturers gain by participating?
money is the only motivation, if F1 helps sell cars/drinks etc then it is a worthwhile endeavor. this is still a manufacturer based sport, the formula must change to represent their interests. its logical really.
