Speed Channel F1 commentary team...

...they really are poor performers. I should say that I'm not familiar with the commentators or their experience at their job but compared to either the BBC or ITV(UK) peers, these guys are just awful and sometimes painfully bad. One of the comments made during the Bahrain F1 race today was... "... and there goes a silver car...!". I can see that you twit!

Anyway that's my rant over.

I like how Bob Varsha said USF1 is still alive.

yes, they are a fairly weak group. lots of dead air during the broadcast as well. watch the bbc feed, it's much better.

BBC commentary crushes SPEED.

One reason is that they actually see the race.

If I am not mistaken, Varsha and company watch it on monitors just like we do.

They so very rarely say anything significant and their analysis is usually about the painfully obvious or the mind achingly obscure.

I don't mind Matchett because he has some cool stories about his time with Benneton. I also like his books.

But Hobbs is pretty much good for nothing but the occasional self-depricating joke.

I just ignore them and watch the feed for myself if I can't get the BBC feed to work.

Yes, Varhsa, Hobbs, and Matchett actually watch the race in a studio and provide commentary that way. They never say they're at the race, but they also never say they're not...

I actually don't mind the commentary from those guys. I'm so used to hearing those three go back and forth - and it's SO obvious that they are good friends and do genuinely enjoy doing this together - that I would be pretty upset if the lineup changed. That said, I do also like hearing James Allen when I'm watching a link/feed at school.

Thanks for the explanations guys. I wasn't aware that they weren't actually at the track.

It really would be better if they just kept quiet and just lets hear the sound of the cars.

Hey ho, I guess at least Speed is covering the events.

Yes. And they do have track access.

SPEED is a subsidiary of FOX. That is another good thing about it.

FOX already owns the F1 rights. So if it ever wanted to, it could move the whole season to any of its networks - even national.

They already have 4 races like that now.

I absolutely dread the FOX races. The coverage is just awful, not to mention being tape delayed.

I'm also bummed that I have to get HD Theater to watch WRC. Come on, SPEED! Where's the coverage!?
