Speed Channel F1 commentary team...
#14
During the break, Speed played DTM on Sunday mornings where F1 would be.
Races that already happened, not anything current.

Since my wife and I got to spend a good 30-40 minutes chatting with Bob Varsha in Monterey in 2008, I'm a little biased. They do a good job with what they have. I'm glad Speed is in HD, Matchett is very knowledgable, Hobbs has funny stories, and Varsha is light years ahead of the tool known as Rick DeBruhl who some of you may remember from Speed's F1 coverage 4-5 years ago...

Varsha is a smart guy - Dartmouth AB, Emory JD - and he obviously enjoys his job.
I had forgotten Rick DeBruhl until now, but I'd rather listen to nails on a chalkboard (or even a NASCAR commentary crew doing F1) than him.

I don't hate Varsha, Matchet or Hobbs.
I just think they are at a real disadvantage because of the way they must view the race.
We need to have them at the track where they can see the actual cars and smell the tires.
Also, the World Feed that everyone gets just sucks. There's not a whole lot that anyone can do with that - least of all Varsha and Co.
Besides, if Chris vouches for him, then he must be alright.

From my understanding, the world feeds are supplied via each country's designated TV channel and therefore the production and bias tends to vary. I was actually surprised to see little or no coverage of Schumi in the Bahrain race. If the TV production company were on top of things they should be aware of how many F1 fans really want to see Schumi drive... regardless of his position in the race.
