Räikkönen fourth in class after Finland Day 1
Formula One news: Räikkönen fourth in class after Finland Day 1 - GPUpdate.net Formula One
Kimi Räikkönen lies seventeenth overall and fourth in class after Day 1 of the Rally of Finland. The 2007 World Champion is competing in his first ever World Rally Championship (WRC) event this weekend, having driven in smaller competitions earlier in the year.
After contesting rallies in Lapland and Italy already in 2009 - snow and tarmac events respectively - the spectacular Finnish challenge is Räikkönen's first gravel event as the Ferrari driver drives in his own Fiat Punto S2000. Joined by compatriot Kaj Lindstrom, former co-driver of four-time World Champion Tommi Mäkinen, the greatest rally challenge for Kimi to date has already included a full recce for pace note making.
A member of Group N this weekend, Räikkönen is running fourth in class - with the leader being Juho Hänninen - and just over thirteen seconds behind his closest rival after Friday. Leading the rally, almost a full seven minutes ahead of Räikkönen, is Mikko Hirvonen who heads World Champion Sébastien Loeb.
